This past month has been an emotional rollercoaster leading up to the National Show filled with moments of anxiety, stress, and exhaustion, but also bursts of excitement, delirious giddiness, and joy. As I look back on the week behind me, one feeling rises above the rest, overwhelming pride.
Three weeks before we were set to leave, Ginger injured her back leg and started limping. I was crushed at the thought of not bringing her to the show, but I worked closely with my vet and did everything possible to get her healed in time. I had finally come to terms with the idea of leaving her behind until, just three days before we left, the limp was gone! So, Ginger came with us.
The travel seemed to irritate her leg a bit, and on show day she wasn’t quite at her best, but I still thought she looked amazing. While she didn’t place as well in her class as I had hoped, her two daughters certainly made up for it and both stepped up and won their classes!
Wolfivan Clover Root was the 1st place yearling milker and Wolfivan Valerian Root took 1st in the 3 year old class and went on to be named Reserve National Champion!
Ginger Root’s son, Wolfivan Island Root, full brother to Valerian Root, was the highest selling animal at the Spotlight Sale, going for an incredible $26,750!
He was led onto the stage as his dam and five of his sisters walked out to stand in a line in front of him. It was a moment I’ll never forget. I looked up at the giant screen in the arena and saw this stunning lineup of my does, which included last year’s National Champion, this year’s Reserve National Champion, and 4 others who so consistently resemble them.
I see these girls every single day, but in that moment, standing there together in what looked like a grand line up, I was truly in awe of their beauty. ❤️
