Here at Concordia, we find that in hand work benefits our horses and students significantly as it allows our students to develop a better feel and connection with the bit, while also allowing our horses to have slow, steady, structured work that targets and isolates specific muscle groups.

Welcome back to our Introduction Series, where we introduce you to the horses and riders of Concordia Stables. Today, meet one of our wonderful boarders, Zoe & her horse Zuriel!

Q: What is your favorite discipline?
A: “Probably dressage. When we first started working on connection, I was just going along with the lessons and didn't really get the point. But once it all started coming together it was eye opening to feel how much more effectively you can communicate with the horse. I went from just sitting up there to actually working with them.”

Q: What are you currently working on in your riding, groundwork, or horsemanship?
A: “We've recently been doing a lot of trail riding. It's so much fun to see Zuriel's excited demeanor off property. He waltzes right onto the trailer now and I know he's looking forward to the adventure.”

Q: Tell us about your favorite horse at Concordia Stables
A: “Of course my boy Zuriel. My second favorite is Ellie because I rode her in my very first riding lessons back in 2019.”

Q: What do you like most about Concordia Stables?
A: “I love the friendly, non-competitive environment. There's always someone around to chat, hack out with or lend a hand if you need help.”

When Zoe isn’t at the barn, you can find her trail running or riding her motorcycle!

🌟 Meet Kira 🌟
Kira is a beautiful Quarter horse x Spotted draft cross mare. She is the newest addition to our lesson program, and she's already making a big impression. Though still young, she has quickly proven herself to be a valuable teacher with so much to offer our students.

With her sweet, puppy-dog personality and adorable face, Kira is easy to fall in love with—but don’t be fooled! Out in the field, she confidently takes on the role of boss mare and natural leader. This unique balance of kindness, intelligence, and a bit of sass makes her an ideal partner for intermediate to advanced riders looking to sharpen their skills.

Kira offers three incredibly smooth and comfortable gaits, drawing frequent comparisons to our beloved Ellie—just in a smaller package! While those are big shoes to fill, there’s no doubt that with time, experience, and continued training, Kira will rise to the occasion and become every bit the star Ellie is.
