❤️🩹Let's talk heartworms.❤️🩹
What is heartworm disease?
Heartworm is a preventable, but serious and potentially fatal when left untreated, parasite that enter your pets bloodstream after being bitten by an infected mosquito. The heartworm larvae migrate through the bloodstream to the blood vessels in the lungs where they mature and can reach lengths of 14 inches. The adult worms then damage the blood vessels, and reduce the heart’s pumping ability, resulting in severe lung and heart disease. Untreated the heartworms can live up to 7 years and cause severe damage to your pet's heart and eventually other organs, as well.
So, what does that mean for you as a pet owner?
