A not-for-profit organized to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome West Highland White T Who is Westie Rescue MidAtlantic?

Westie Rescue of the Mid-Atlantic States, Inc. ["Westie Rescue Mid-Atlantic"], a member of the Humane Society of the United States is an all volunteer 501-3c, not-for-profit organization incorporated in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The organization is dedicated to assisting West Highland White Terriers needing rescue from neglect or abuse or assistance in finding new homes. We primarily cover the Greater Washington DC area, including Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina and the District of Columbia, parts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. We also support or participate in rescue efforts elsewhere in the United States. Our volunteers have been involved in rescue over 10 years and, during that time, have taken in and placed hundreds of Westies. Westie Rescue Mid-Atlantic operates totally on donations from the public, which go only to pay the expenses [including medical care] of the dogs and administrative costs of finding potential adoptive homes and record keeping. There is no full-time staff. Volunteers receive no compensation except for receipts of out of pocket expenses directly related to rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption of Westies in the program. Each year, we place 40-60 Westies. Some are in excellent health; some are far from it. Although most are around 5 years old, the ages of the dogs range from 8 weeks to 11 years.

News from the Homefront! 🐾
We received the sweetest letter from one of our rescue alumni, Miss Charlie — formerly Miss June, adopted in 2026 — and we couldn’t wait to share her happy news! 💕

Charlie came into rescue as an ex-breeder girl, and just look at her now! She is settling beautifully into her forever home and has discovered that life can be pretty wonderful. 🥰

One of her favorite discoveries? Her brother, Malcohm (2023)! Charlie describes him as a very chill guy who remains calm even when she gets the zoomies and starts jumping around. 😂🐾 Every wild girl needs a calm brother, right?

Mom is so proud of Charlie and all the progress she has made. When Charlie first arrived, she was shaking — but within just a few hours, she had stopped. ❤️ What a big first step for a little girl who had so much to learn about being safe and loved.

Charlie is also learning to navigate the stairs. This is a big accomplishment. Here in this picture, she is learning to master the staircase. She also is doing wonderfully on her leash. In fact, she stays so close to Mom on their walks that Mom worries she might accidentally bump into her! 🥹 That kind of trust is priceless.

And those Westie kisses? Charlie has perfected them! 💋🐶

This sweet girl has come such a long way from her breeding days. She is blossoming into a brave, loving, happy little girl, and we couldn’t be more proud of her.

And the best part? Charlie’s sisters — the girls who came into rescue with her — are all doing well, too! 💕🐾

This is what rescue is all about. Happy endings. ❤️

Keep blossoming, sweet Charlie. We are so very proud of you! 🌸🐾
Love,
Your Westie Rescue family ❤️

🚨 URGENT: EXPERIENCED FOSTERS NEEDED FOR EX-COMMERCIAL BREEDER WESTIES 🚨In Western Pennsylvania or close by areas.

Our sister rescue, Westie Rescue Western Pennsylvania, urgently needs experienced foster homes for several sweet girls coming out of commercial breeding situations.

These girls are healthy, extremely sweet, and deserving of the chance to finally learn what life as a beloved pet feels like. But they need the right people to help them get there.

We are looking for STRONG fosters with SOFT hearts. ❤️

These are not dogs who simply need a place to stay. They need someone who understands anxious and undersocialized dogs and is willing to patiently help them decompress, build confidence, learn to trust, and prepare for adoption.

Fosters should be:

*Experienced with anxious, fearful, or undersocialized dogs
*Extremely patient and compassionate
*Comfortable with potty training and helping a dog learn basic household routines
*Willing to give these girls the time and space they need to adjust
*Committed to following rescue safety protocols every step of the way
*Understanding that newly rescued dogs can be escape artists and require extra vigilance and secure handling
*Able to provide consistency, structure, reassurance, and—most importantly—patience

These girls need people who are strong enough to handle the challenges, but gentle enough to understand the fear behind them. They need fosters who won't give up when progress is slow, and who will celebrate the little victories along the way.

For the right foster, helping a dog discover that she is safe, loved, and finally free to just be a dog can be incredibly rewarding. ❤️

If you have the experience, patience, and heart to help—or know someone who does—please reach out.

They don't need perfect. They need committed, experienced, patient people who will give them the chance they deserve. 🐾❤️

URGENT Foster needed for this senior bonded pair of cuties.
California within a 45 drive to San Fernando Valley (please, must be local)
We know they are not westies, but Adopt Me Rescue is the rescue who took Elvis the cleft palette westie mix and many more so let's return the favor and find them a foster for this cute pair. They prefer to keep them together, but if you can only foster one of them still apply. Reach out to the Adopt Me Rescue.
Let's share.

SCOTTISH GAMES
Attention Westies grab your humans and come to the Scottish Games
September 5 & 6 (Saturday and Sunday). Dog Day is Sunday

Great Meadows - Festival Field
5089 Tavern Road, The Plains, VA 20198

Virginia Scottish Games and Westie Rescue would like to invite all the 13 Dog breeds of Scotland and their owners to join in celebrating all things Scottish. Our own Uncle Stephen is the point person for the Dogs of Scotland area at the Virginia Scottish Games

Bearded Collie, Border Collie, Border Terrier, Cairn Terrier, Collie (Rough, Smooth), Dandie Dinmont Terrier, Golden Retriever, Gordon Setter, Scottish Deerhound, Scottish Terrier, Shetland Sheepdog, Skye Terrier, West Highland White Terrier

This year’s event will be for both Saturday and Sunday as in the past 30+ years
Event Times: 9 am to 5 pm

Sunday will be the main day for Dogs and their owners. There will be a Parade of the Dogs of Scotland led by a piper on Sunday around noon time. There will be Terrier races for all Terriers and want-2-B Terriers starting at 10 AM- Noon on Sunday or until their respective tongues hang out. Depending on the weather. I will run Terrier Race Demo show runs on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

Once again, the Scottish Games will provide LOTS of water. As a note to our four-legged friends, no peeing in pools or water bowls this year, as there were complaints from parents who allowed their children to wade in there too. (I did not see the issue, but you know how humans are).

Tell your friends to come with their dogs on Sunday as a large turnout is always welcomed. Yes, dogs get in free, but humans have to pay.

National Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day - August 28th

Today, on National Rainbow Bridge Day, we take a moment to honor the bright, feisty, and unforgettable Westies who are no longer by our side.

Westies bring a unique kind of magic into our lives—the joyful tail wags, the stubborn head tilts, and that classic "Westitude" that fills a home with so much light. While saying goodbye is the hardest part of loving a rescue, the joy, warmth, and memories they leave behind never fade.

We would love to remember your sweet pups together today. Please share a photo of your fur baby in the comments below, along with one sentence describing their unique personality. Let's celebrate the wonderful lives they lived and the lasting paw prints they left on our hearts. 🐾✨

Westie mix in need of a home:
Hi there! My name is Miss Marilyn, and I am a 6-year-old, 30 lb Westie mix with a heart full of love and a serious case of the happy tail-wags. I am located in Virginia.

I used to have a wonderful life, but when my family had to move, they couldn’t bring me along. There were lots of tears and big goodbyes when they surrendered me, but the sweet folks at Friends of Campbell County Animal Control stepped in to help me find my true forever home.

I’m currently in a foster home, which is great, but... I’m living in a house full of Beagles. Yes, Beagles! As a spirited terrier, those hound dogs just don't quite get my vibe. I’m so ready for a home of my own where I can really shine!

A Little About Me & Why We’ll Be Best Friends:
I’m Pure Joy: If one word describes me, it’s HAPPY! I love doing wild zoomies, catching toys mid-air when you toss them, and making my humans laugh every single day.

Your Shadow & Best Bud: I love being near my person. I want to bond with you, cuddle up, and be your loyal sidekick.

Pet-Friendly: I love playing with other dogs and I’m okay with cats, too.

Classic Westie Beauty: I have that typical Westie sensitive/itchy skin, but true Westie lovers know we’ve got this covered with good food, relaxing baths, and lots of love.

*My Quick Stats:
*Age: 6 years young
*Weight: 30 lbs
*Health: Up to date on all my shots and will be spayed before I head home with you!
*I promise to bring endless smiles, fun playtimes, and unconditional love into your life. Will you be my happy ending?

How to Adopt Me: Please TEXT Miss Barbe at 434-851-2598 (texts only, please) to ask about meeting me, the lovely, adorable Miss Marilyn!

You can also fill out an application found on our website, www.friendsofcampbellcounty.org Make sure to mention you want me, Miss Marilyn.

*This is a courtesy post for Friends of Campbell County Animal Control. This cutie is not with WRMA.
