📍 August 15 is Check the Chip Day!

Microchips help reunite lost pets with their families - but only if the info is up to date.

Today’s a great reminder to:
✔️ Have your pet’s microchip scanned at your vet
✔️ Double-check that your contact info is current
✔️ Register the chip if it isn’t already

A quick check now can make all the difference later.

🦎 August 14 is World Lizard Day -- a great time to recognize our scaly companions and the unique care they require.

From geckos to bearded dragons, lizards need specialized habitats, lighting, and nutrition to thrive. Regular checkups with a reptile-savvy veterinarian can help prevent common health issues like metabolic bone disease or respiratory infections.

Thinking about adding a lizard to your family? Be sure to do your research -- and talk with your vet about proper care!

August 8 is International Cat Day - a purrfect excuse to celebrate our feline friends!

Cats may be independent, but they rely on us for lifelong care. From regular wellness exams to vaccines, dental care, and enrichment at home, there’s a lot we can do to keep them happy and healthy.

Summer fun is better when it’s safe - for you and your pets.

High temps can put dogs and other animals at risk for heatstroke, burned paw pads, and dehydration. If you’re heading outside with your pet, keep these safety tips in mind.

Your pet can’t sweat it out like you can - so keep it cool, take it slow, and know the signs of overheating.

Did you know foodborne illness affects 48 million Americans each year?

Veterinarians play an essential role in keeping our food safe - from farm to fridge. From monitoring animal health to supporting safe food production, vets help ensure the meat, dairy, eggs, and seafood we enjoy are safe and responsibly sourced.

Food safety starts with animal care - and vets are on it.

August is National Immunization Awareness Month! 💉🐶🐮🐱

Vaccines protect pets and livestock from serious - and sometimes fatal - diseases. Whether it’s rabies, distemper, or clostridial disease, staying up-to-date on vaccinations keeps your animals healthy and your community safe.

Talk to your veterinarian about what’s recommended for your pet or herd based on species, age, and lifestyle.

Let’s keep North Carolina animals healthy - one vaccine at a time.

Heat stress can turn dangerous fast—especially in North Carolina summers. Never leave pets in parked cars, even for a minute.

Provide shade, water, and rest breaks—especially for brachycephalic breeds, seniors, and overweight pets.

Pet overpopulation is a serious issue in North Carolina. Sadly, our state ranks third in the nation in the number of cats and dogs euthanized each year simply because there aren’t enough homes.

Spaying and neutering your pets is the most effective way to reduce this tragic cycle.

The NCVMA supports spay/neuter programs, pre-pubertal sterilization, and responsible adoption policies. We stand with veterinarians and shelters who work daily to prevent unnecessary suffering.

Be part of the solution.

Small pets, big personalities! Guinea pigs are social, vocal, and thrive with proper care and attention.

Today’s a great day to:
✔️ Double-check their diet (hay, vitamin C, and fresh veggies!)
✔️ Give them space to explore
✔️ Schedule a wellness check with a vet who sees small mammals

Tiny paws deserve top-tier care.
