Texas Coalition for Animal Protection A nonprofit on a mission to end pet overpopulation and euthanasia in Texas animal shelters. The Texas Coalition for Animal Protection (TCAP) saves animal lives!

TCAP has been a leader in animal welfare since its formation in 2002. TCAP provides compassionate solutions to pet overpopulation and euthanasia. The Texas Coalition for Animal Protection (TCAP) is a nonprofit organization that has been determined by the IRS to be tax-exempt as an organization described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. With a focus on spay/neuter surgeries and pr

eventive care, TCAP seeks to reduce pet overpopulation and improve animal welfare across North Texas. In 2007, the Humane Society of the United States named TCAP as the "most innovative approach to animal welfare in the nation." TCAP's skilled and caring veterinary team has spayed/neutered more than 540,000 animals and has vaccinated more than 1 million animals against the deadly rabies virus. TCAP's ultimate goal is to substantially reduce animal overpopulation and euthanasia throughout North Texas, while we promote animal welfare.

Burleson Animal Services is notifying residents that a bat found deceased in the 300 block of Stefanie Drive has tested positive for rabies.

Anyone who may have touched the bat, had direct contact with it, or believes their pet may have come into contact with the bat should immediately contact Burleson Animal Services and seek guidance from a medical professional or veterinarian.

Rabies is a viral disease that affects the nervous system of mammals, including humans. While rabies cases in humans are rare, the disease is almost always fatal once symptoms appear. However, prompt medical treatment after exposure is highly effective in preventing illness.

According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, bats are considered a high-risk rabies species in Texas, along with skunks, raccoons, foxes and coyotes. Bats are also the leading source of rabies exposure in humans in the United States because their bites can be small and difficult to detect.

Texas health officials report that dozens of bats have tested positive for rabies statewide so far in 2026, with rabies cases continuing to be identified across multiple Texas counties. The last confirmed positive rabies case involving a bat within the Burleson city limits occurred in 2021.
