Past foster Miss Mandy has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Her human sent us the following: Miss Mandy lost her mom when she was 10 years old due to cancer. She was quickly sent to the pound. That is where “Fuzzy” found her. She was so grateful to be rescued.
On my side, I lost two Cairn terriers and one American Eskimo during Covid. Not from Covid as they were from 18½ to 20 years old, but during the time we all had to hunker down. They were all rescued. I swore no more doggos, but then the house seemed so quiet and so empty.
I began looking for a roommate, a furry roommate. I happened upon the posting about “Miss Mandy”. Yes, you see, Mandy was a princess and demanded the “Miss” in front of her name.
Our relationship was rocky at first…Miss Mandy wanted her mom. Every time she spotted another human, she would run up to them smell them then turn away. On top of that she had a black rash covering her belly. Vets thought it might be allergy, and she was given an awful diet of sweet potato dog food that she hated! Slowly we worked through treating the rash and various awful food until the rash disappeared. (Just between us, I think it was a mourning rash. About the time she accepted me as her roommate the rash was gone.)
It took about 2 years for her to fully open to me, but she did and was, in her regal way affectionate, loyal, and allowed me to become the center of her life. About 3 months ago, she went from 9 pounds to 6, in a matter of 2 weeks. The diagnosis was renal failure, so back to the not so nice food, this time only the vet could order it and it wasn’t too bad with fresh chicken breast, and it seemed to give her, her life spark back. She had a bounce to her step, chased the squirrels and barked at the occasional crow that visited the deck. Then slowly she slowed even more and we watched helplessly as her weight dropped even more. Finally one morning, she looked at me as if to say, “It is time”.
So she passed. As the life left her body in my arms, I swear I felt her spirit pass my face as she was lifted to the bridge."
