Did you know that if you stop in at Penobscot Pour House or Brewer Paradis Shop 'n Save Supermarket, you can donate to Bangor Humane Society? Both local businesses are selling these paper paws to raise money for the dogs and cats of BHS. Your donations can help dogs like Baron (a most handsome boy) and 2,000 other animals each year while they wait for their forever homes. So swing by either of these businesses and don't forget to tell 'em the dogs sent ya!

A special thank you to Danforth's Down Home Supermarket and Brothers Supermarkets Dover-Foxcroft for selling paws for us earlier in the summer. So far, more than $7,000 has been raised through this initiative! Woof!

Kittens, kittens, kittens! We have dozens of kittens who are officially ready for adoption! You can find them at two locations: here at the shelter, or at PetSmart in Bangor. SO MUCH INFORMATION IN THIS POST, so please read on! (The kittens in this photo are available, but are largely for attention-please come visit in person to see who else is available 😁)

🐈If you would like to adopt a kitten from PetSmart, here's what you need to know:

The folks at PetSmart will do their best to help you visit with the kitten you may be interested in. Once you decide, you'll need to head over to the shelter at 693 Mt. Hope Ave. in Bangor to complete your adoption application and be approved to adopt. Once your adoption is complete, you can head back over to the store to pick up your new family member. Easy peasy!

🏠If you rent, we must be able to confirm with your landlord that you are permitted to have a pet.
💲Adoption fee for a kitten is $225
⏰The shelter is only open until 6pm, so all adoptions must begin by 5pm. If you are at PetSmart after 5pm, you'll need to wait until the following day to complete your adoption.

So sorry to interrupt your Caturday, but we could really use your help!

We're running very low on canned cat food and our feline overlords and ladies will soon begin their cries of despair. Won't you please take pity on us all? They enjoy all manner of soft food, from pate to chunks in extra gravy and Fancy Feast to Friskies. Crunchy food will sustain them, but it's the soft stuff that feeds their SOULS!

Fundraiser for Bangor Humane Society

The results are in from this year's Paws on the Green ⛳️ Golf Tournament to benefit the animals 🐕🐈🐇 of Bangor Humane Society!

After a beautiful day of fun, friends, and fundraising to help the pets of our shelter, we are so pleased to report the event raised over $24,000!! A huge thanks to Russ Maynard, Nicole Hesseltine, and the Blackstream Custom Cycles crew for leading the charge on this event. Thank you again to Hermon Meadow Golf Club for being such gracious hosts, and to all of our sponsors, volunteers, and golfers for doing so much to SAVE MORE ANIMALS!!

UPDATE: AS OF 8/14/2025 ALL PUPPIES WERE ADOPTED! 😍

LARGE BREED PUPPIES AVAILABLE AT THE SHELTER! TWO MALES, THREE FEMALES

These cuties are St. Bernard-Mastiff mixes who WILL be enormous dogs-at not quite 4 months old, they are already between 46-56 pounds each. If you're interested in adopting, here's what to expect:

🐶All puppies will be at the shelter at 693 Mt. Hope Ave. when we open at 1pm on Tuesday, August 12th until they're all adopted.
💲Because they are such a special breed, their adoption fee is $750. This fee includes: wellness exam, all age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming & flea/tick treatment, rabies vaccinations, and spay or neuter.
🏡If you rent, we MUST be able to verify with your landlord that you have permission to bring home a pet.
🐕If you want to adopt a puppy and you have another dog(s), you must bring your dog(s) along for a meeting to make sure it's going to be a good fit.

DO NOT LEAVE PETS UNATTENDED IN VEHICLES THIS WEEK UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! Even on a 70-degree day, a car will heat to over 100-degrees in very short order.

Special thanks to our friends at Eastern Maine Emergency Veterinary Clinic for raising awareness as temperatures soar!

There is a heat advisory for Maine, Monday from 11am to Tuesday at 8pm. This means that your pet can be at risk of heat stroke and other heat related injury or illness.

The afternoons are NOT a good time for a hike or run and car rides where pets have to wait in the car is risky today. Please be mindful if you have an elderly dog with respiratory disease or smooshed face breeds. Since dogs get rid of heat by panting, heat and humidity can make it really challenging for them to regulate their body temp!
