Since 1990 our mission has been to save the lives of local dogs, primarily at San Francisco Animal Care and Control, that are at risk of euthanasia.

Daisy is a 10-pound bundle of joy wrapped in a possibly Chi/Beagle mix package. At around 3-5 years old, she’s mastered the fine art of being fun, gentle, and irresistibly sweet, with a calm, affectionate vibe that makes her the ultimate cuddle champion. Bonus points—she adores kids and would be thrilled to have a little human sidekick!

Daisy’s social butterfly status is undeniable—she loves making friends, exploring the yard with her fellow pups, and curling up for cozy snuggle sessions. She may vocalize her thoughts when left alone (who doesn’t?), so she’d thrive in a home with people around often or even a laid-back doggie daycare.

Yes, its EARTH DAY 🌎and we are wondering when in the EARTH 🌎 is a good dog like Scotty going to find his forever home 🏡!

We are looking for a FOSTER or ADOPTIVE home for one of the most photogenic dogs we know, Scotty.

The idea home for Scotty is a adult-only home with no other pets. Scotty is a true and loyal dog that would thrive where he is the center of attention. He loves walking and is great on leash. He walks briskly and happily! Oh...and turns out he is a SF Giants fan. You watch the game, and he cheers with you!

Scotty is a chatty little fellow so perhaps a not the greatest fit for a condo or apartment.

Update - Butternut found placement with another rescue.

Butternut needs a foster home!

5-year-old, spayed, 8-pound, poodle mix Butternut was surrendered to us due to landlord issues. The owner and 3 other adults lived with Butternut for about 3 years. This is not Butternut's first time at the shelter and she is finding it stressful.

Although she is struggling in her run, this sweetie warmed and danced around the office when brought in for a visit. She's not immediately up for handling; but with time she became affiliative and super playful. Butternut also has a fabulous tennis ball fetch and rocks a little dog, big ball hilarious vibe!

Please let us know if you can foster Butternut!

Scotty is looking for a new foster home! 🏡How about yours?

Scotty is a 3-year-old, 12-lb cutie-pie. He is probably a Pomeranian or Papillion. We are open to a foster-to-adopt situation.

Scotty knows basic commands. He enjoys walks with his foster family. He is affectionate but can also happily chill out on his dog bed while you work or nap.
Scotty can be a bit vocal in his current home. It is in the heart of the city and has lots of activities.

Scotty is looking for a home without children. He'd love to be an only dog and to explore California with you this summer and FOREVER :)

Sadly, we received an update about one of adopted dogs. It is always hard to get such a news but we remember the love given and received.

“I lost my little Rascal on 2/25/25. I first saw him on Petfinders in February 2011 and was totally taken by the video you provided. You brought him to me in March. He has been a wonderful companion to me over the years. He lived up to the name Rascal which I loved.“

Guess who else is officially available for adoption...our big beautiful puppy, FROST.

A Gentle Giant with a Heart of Gold 💛. Frost is a one-year-old neutered male Great Pyrenees with the softest heart and the floofiest fur.

Frost is exceptionally friendly—he adores people and gets along beautifully with other dogs. He would likely be great with cats, too. He loves attention and isn’t afraid to let you know when he wants more—with a big, gentle paw slap as a reminder that petting time isn't over. Frost lives for the dog park. The dog park means friends to play with and people to adore him.

Frost would thrive in a home with another large dog to play with or someone who can take him on regular park adventures. This fluffy boy has likely spent most of his life outdoors, so he’s still learning how to walk on a leash and wear a harness. He needs someone patient who can help him adjust to indoor life and build his confidence with love and positive training. But trust us—everyone who meets Frost falls in love instantly.

Great Pyrenees are known for their calm nature despite their size. Frost is no different. He’s low-energy, content with a daily outing and plenty of time lounging in the yard. At 70 pounds and still filling out. Frost is incredibly tolerant and would do well in a family with young kids—even if they tug his fur or step on his giant paws. He spends his days chewing on puzzle toys and napping in the sun, waiting for his forever family to find him. If you’re looking for a loyal, majestic, sweet-natured best friend, Frost might just be the perfect match.

Frost is approximately 1 year old and 70-75 lbs.

Jasper is an approximately 4-year-old, 14-pound bundle of love and joy. This adorable white and apricot terrier is ready to find a forever home where he can be showered with love and affection. Sweet & Loving – Although he can initially be be a little timid, shy and submissive, once he warms up, Jasper is so sweet and has the most easy-going, calm, gentle nature that will melt your heart.

He’s a cuddle bug who can’t resist rolling over for belly rubs, and he wiggles with joy and happiness when people come into the room. While he loves affection, he's not overly clingy and is content chilling on his bed nearby.

Social Butterfly 🦋– Once he feels safe, Jasper warms up quickly and loves making new friends. He's non-reactive and is chill with other dogs, including the three dogs of varying sizes in his foster home, where he easily integrated himself into the pack and the routine.

The Perfect Companion – Jasper thrives on and finds safety and comfort in the company of gentle dogs and humans. He can be a bit fearful of meeting men (he gets a little growly in the beginning but quickly warms up.) He’s quiet, rarely barks, and understands "no." He’s also making great progress with house training. He is doing well on the leash and enjoys going for walks and hikes, as well as lounging in the back yard or curled up next to you on the couch.

Happy 1st Birthday to LUCKY LUCKY Augie!

Last July, Grateful Dogs Rescue was asked to help a puppy that would be euthanized that very day. The puppy was very shy..semi-feral and had no options. Luckily a volunteer stepped up to foster. And yes, this puppy was untouchable. It was a long road between the behavior and some health challenges but Augie found a home with one of our prior adopters. Augie is now ONE year old and a happy, happy dog!

Seven-year-old Frida is looking for some dog people to live with that want a really affectionate, sweet dog to join them with walks, play and cuddling. Friday is about 13lbs.

Frida's favorite day is being with her humans whether on a walk, in the car, visiting a store, or wherever you happen to be.

Friday's foster parents have even offered free boarding for her adopters! We think Friday will ❤️ that!!!!

Our Great Pyrenees puppy Frost needs a temp foster from 04/15/ to 04/17

He is a gentle dog. He will need a yard. He can be vocal so not a fit for an apartment/condo. He is house-trained. He is good with all people and dogs.

The current foster is in Palo Alto so looking for the vacation foster to be in Peninsula/SF or South Bay.

Frost is 10-12 months old. He is 70+ lbs.

Skippy is 2 years old and 10lbs. Skippy is a little survivor! He had been hit by a car and was suffering from a broken pelvis. Happily, a wonderful person stepped up to foster Skippy during his recovery. And he has indeed recovered, and he is now ready for adoption!

Skippy is a happy little homebody that loves to find a sunspot where he can enjoy the warmth of the sun and a well-deserved d nap.

Look at the handsome face with those hypnotic eyes. Be prepared for Skippy to charm you!!! Submit your application and bring your new BFF home!
