Brigitte Bardot calls it as it is — harming animals isn’t just wrong for them, it diminishes us too. Rest in peace, Brigitte Bardot

Meet Lacy Ann! Lacy Ann is a 2‑year‑old, 12‑lb Schnauzer mix from Texas with a heart as big as her journey. She is here in RI She’s a deeply loving, gentle girl who just needs a patient adopter willing to give her the time and reassurance she deserves.
Once terrified of humans, Lacy Ann has made incredible progress. When she bonds with her person, she becomes wonderfully loyal, affectionate, and eager to please. Her trust is something you earn—and once you have it, it’s truly special.
Lacy Ann is still working on potty training, but with consistency and patience, she’ll get there. Outside, she becomes playful, curious, and full of joy, showing glimpses of the carefree dog she’s becoming. She’s looking for someone who can offer a calm home, steady routines, and lots of love. If you’re willing to go slow and let her blossom at her own pace, Lacy Ann will reward you with unwavering devotion. Please share for adoption, smalldogrescuene.org

finally, some good legislation coming out of Florida.

Florida is taking a significant step toward animal protection as Governor Ron DeSantis unveils a major proposal aimed at shutting down puppy mills 🐾🐶

In late 2025, DeSantis announced a proposed bill that would create state licensing for breeders, require pet stores to prioritize shelter adoptions, establish abuse reporting hotlines, increase penalties for animal cruelty, and improve health transparency for purchased pets. The initiative is designed to crack down on inhumane breeding practices and protect vulnerable animals across the state.

Supporters say the proposal represents meaningful change and remarkable progress, positioning Florida as a leader in the growing nationwide effort to end animal suffering and promote responsible, ethical pet ownership.

Brigitte Bardot (1934–2025) 🐾

Brigitte Bardot wasn’t just an animal lover — she was one of the most influential animal-rights activists of the modern era.

After leaving the film industry at the height of her fame, she dedicated the rest of her life entirely to animals.

What she actually accomplished:

• Founded the Brigitte Bardot Foundation (1986), which went on to rescue and protect tens of thousands of animals

• Funded animal shelters, sanctuaries, veterinary care, and emergency rescues across France and internationally

• Led large-scale dog and cat sterilisation campaigns to reduce abandonment and overbreeding

• Actively fought against puppy farming and irresponsible breeding

• Campaigned to strengthen animal welfare laws in France, including penalties for abuse and neglect

• Took a public stand against the fur industry, seal clubbing, animal testing, factory farming, and trophy hunting

• Personally intervened in high-profile cruelty cases, forcing government and media attention

• Used her fame unapologetically to pressure politicians, industries, and institutions — often succeeding

Dogs were at the centre of her work. She consistently highlighted abandonment, breeding exploitation, and the failure of humans to take responsibility for the animals they create. Many of the protections dogs now have in France exist because she refused to stay silent.

She was controversial. She was uncompromising.
But one thing is undeniable:

Animals were safer because Brigitte Bardot existed.

Her legacy is not cinema.
It is laws changed, shelters built, and lives saved.
She died after undergoing surgery and battling a sudden illness. We at Animal Watch will always remember her

Please adopt from a shelter or responsible rescue group! Never buy a puppy from a pet store or online.

The Netherlands is widely recognized as the first country to effectively eliminate stray dogs as a widespread problem. While an occasional lost or abandoned dog may still appear, there is no permanent stray dog population living on the streets.

This achievement didn’t happen overnight. It was the result of decades of coordinated policies, including strict animal welfare laws, mandatory dog registration and microchipping, high fines for abandonment, affordable spay-and-neuter programs, and a strong nationwide culture of adoption instead of buying pets. The government also partnered closely with animal welfare organizations to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs.
