We Did It — Jarhead Has Been Rescued!
Good Paws Rescue and Recovery is thrilled to share the news everyone has been waiting for:

WE CAUGHT HIM!
After days of community efforts, "Jarhead" is officially jar-free.
What surprised us most during this rescue was discovering that Jarhead is actually a young coyote pup. Neighbors had reported seeing three pups in the local pack, but recent drone footage and eyewitness reports consistently showed only two. We now know why—Jarhead was the missing third pup.

Early this morning, the Good Paws team had confirmed sightings and successfully coordinated a rescue effort. With the assistance of the Delhi Police Department and the use of a catch pole, our team was able to safely remove the container and free Jarhead.
This rescue would not have been possible without the incredible support of our community. It has been one of the most inspiring community-led rescue efforts we have ever had the privilege to be part of. When the odds seemed stacked against him, hundreds of people came together to help ensure Jarhead had a chance.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to:
Joe Perry and Liz Vitatoe for their tireless dedication and their final rescue of Jarhead
Mallory and Scott for assisting with this morning's operation.
EADS Fencing (Loveland) for donating fencing materials.
Dino Davis for making a long trip to pick up and delivery the fencing
Delhi Police Officer Cody Collins for his calm, skilled handling of the catch pole and rapid response.
Danny from Reaves Rescue & Recovery for providing drone services that helped us pinpoint Jarhead's location.
Alan and Michelle for establishing a headquarters and support station for our team.

There are countless others who played an essential role in this recovery. From monitoring sightings and sharing information on social media to delivering water, snacks, and supplies to volunteers, every contribution mattered. This rescue was truly a community achievement, and we are deeply grateful to everyone who helped.

Jarhead's Condition
Upon recovery, Jarhead was assessed and found to be injury-free, energetic, and surprisingly healthy. Given his condition and the recommendations of wildlife professionals, he was immediately released back to his pack.
We understand there may be questions about that decision and will be sharing additional information from wildlife experts later this weekend for those interested in learning more.

A Reminder for the Community
Photos included with this post show the container that was lodged on Jarhead's head. We hope this serves as an important reminder to:
Secure lids on containers before disposal.
Rinse and clean cans, jars, and food containers before placing them in the trash.
Properly dispose of waste that could pose a risk to wildlife.
This incident was entirely preventable, and small actions can make a significant difference in protecting animals in our community.

Support Our Mission
Every service provided by Good Paws Rescue and Recovery is offered free of charge to the community. We are able to continue this work because of the generosity of supporters who donate their time, resources, and funding.

All donations are used directly to support active and future cases, including expenses related to traps, food, shelter, transportation, veterinary care, and other rescue supplies.

Donations can be made through:

Thank You to everyone who followed Jarhead's journey, shared updates, volunteered, donated, and offered encouragement—thank you. Your compassion, dedication, and teamwork made this rescue possible.
You made a difference.

As we head into the holiday weekend, please remember to:
Microchip your pets.
Keep your pet registration current with the county.
Ensure collars and identification tags are worn at all times.
Keep dogs leashed, even if they are typically reliable off-leash or contained in a yard.
The Fourth of July is one of the busiest times of year for lost pets due to fireworks-related scares. Taking these simple precautions can help keep your pets safe and at home where they belong.

Thank you again for helping give Jarhead a second chance. 🐾

JARHEAD UPDATE

We understand that everyone is very eager to help with Jarhead and you all care and are trying to do the best thing, however we are requesting that everyone please refrain from entering into people’s yards.

For the safety of everyone (human and animal) we are asking for everyone to stop searching the words for now.

If you are out and want to help, we only need eyes, sitting in cars is the name of the game. Silence and eyes.

Thank you so much!

**UPDATE 7/2 10am***
WE HAVE A SIGHTING ON HIM! HE IS ALIVE! I have two volunteers on site right now, trying to get eyes on him so we can catch him.
We could use a few volunteers to bring us COLD WATER throughout the day. This role would pretty much just stay in your car and deliver water to our team members on the ground.

--------

It is with a heavy heart that I share that, despite extensive efforts, we have not been able to locate JarHead, the dog with the container on his head. Good Paws and Reaves Recovery continued searching throughout the area, but unfortunately there have been no sightings.

Given the circumstances, I am saddened to say that it is possible he did not survive the night. However, Good Paws volunteers will continue checking the area over the next several days.

If you do happen to see him, please call 911 and ask that Wildlife Services be dispatched. You can also call or text me directly, and I will arrange for a volunteer to respond as quickly as possible.

Thank you to everyone who has helped search and remained hopeful during this difficult situation.

Good Paws Rescue and Recovery is a fully 100% volunteer based service. We provide our services FREE of charge to the community. Because of this we would like to remind people donations are what helps us continue to provide these services.

I would also like to acknowledge that, based on what we know so far, there are difficult questions about whether more should have been done to help this animal. At this time, I do not have all the facts and do not want to speculate or share details prematurely.
Sadly, this is not the first case of its kind that our community has faced in the last 5 years. As we learn more, Good Paws hopes to work with community members to explore ways to better protect vulnerable animals and prevent similar situations in the future.
If you would like to be involved in those discussions and efforts, please let me know or follow my page for updates. Out of respect for the situation and those involved, I will refrain from sharing further details until more information is available.
