LOOKING FOR A CAT WITH BOUNDARIES? We got 'em!

First the good news. Jett was adopted to a wonderful widower looking for a cat to keep him company. Ghost was adopted to a woman and her teenage son, who also have a 7-month old kitten to keep him spry. Ghost is SLOWLY acclimating to his new home.

Now the other news. We would really like to find adopters for our remaining cats THIS MONTH! The cats will be pulled from PetSmart on April 26, and will not be returning until probably late May or June. So they don't have to go back to foster care, we would like to have them in forever homes before April 26th.

Azalea & Larkspur have really blossomed at the store. They are more social (still shy though) and have become much easier to handle. They should do great in a quiet home, as long as the first month is spent acclimating slowly starting in ONE room. Nightly Fancy Feast will be the key to winning them over. They CAN live with other cats, just no dogs or small children.

Molly is now healthy and just as sassy as ever. She needs to be an only pet. She just wants to be the center of your attention. She can be vocal, so apartment/condo living may not be for her. She loves a nice cat tree perch to watch the world from. She will need to be on urinary formula prescription food for life.

Licorice is just waiting for a home that will give her the attention she craves. She loves to be pet. She does have an eye issue that requires daily prescription drops. We will help get the prescription transferred to you and currently have a couple months supply. She should be okay with older children, possibly with cats, but no dogs.

These 4 wonderful cats just need the right adopter to give them the love and attention they desire, but also respect their boundaries. PLEASE SHARE & HELP US GET OUR CATS ADOPTED!!

Boundaries. Limits. We all have them.

Health issues. Most of us have those too.

The 7 adoptable cats remaining in our care have these too. That doesn't mean they don't deserve loving forever homes. They just need very specific forever homes.

Ghost is FIV+. He is a senior cat now (~8 years old). He CAN live with other cats. He actually does great with other cats, even when they hiss in his face. He gives great head bonks, especially for his nightly stew (Friskies shreds with hot water). He also loves Bursts treats. I don't understand how he hasn't been adopted yet.

Licorice has an eye issue and needs twice daily eye drops. We were told a bottle ($68 prescription) would be monthly, but we are still using the same bottle we bought in November. She is a very friendly cat who loves attention, but will swat when she feels slighted. We keep her nails trimmed and have no problems. She does fine with other cats. She could stand to lose some weight.

Jett needs to be an only pet. He doesn't like other cats nor dogs (boundaries!). He is very specific about where you can pet him (his tail is a big no), but he does love attention.

Molly would prefer to be an only pet as well. She is prone to calcium oxalate stones from stress. She must be on bladder stone prevention food for the rest of her life. She will p*e outside of the box (while in the box, urinating out the door), but puppy/incontinence pads do the trick. She thrives on attention and wants to be in your business.

Azalea & Larkspur are very shy and bonded. Larkspur is not fond of being picked up but he loves attention, especially when you are serving dinner. An inexpensive muzzle works great when we have to trim his claws or brush out any mats. They do great with other cats, but cannot be around dogs or small children.

Sleenky is very demanding for attention, but she is all about the limits. You may only pet her chin, head, shoulders and back. She also needs to be muzzled when taking care of nails or other issues.

This week is National Adoption Week at PetSmart, and our cats will be returning to the store tonight. They have been on a one week hiatus per corporate policy. Because our cats are not "highly adoptable, friendly" cats, we do not know how much longer they will be able to remain at the store. Per corporate policy, we can have them at the store for three weeks, then must bring them home for one week. This kind of frequent relocation causes them unnecessary stress.

Additionally, my husband has chosen his retirement date, at which point, we will be traveling and I will be unable to care for cats anymore. We would like to have all cats adopted out prior to his retirement. (I have not taken in any new cats in over 2 years knowing he would retire.)

Please share this post far and wide. I would be willing to get health certificates and travel out of state for the right adopter. I adore these cats, but they need to be in a forever home where they will get the love they have long deserved.

Ta**ra came to us in December of 2013 with her sister. They were breaking into a house where we think they used to live. (The new homeowners called us.) Her sister was sweet and quickly adopted. Ta**ra was not. We tried adopting her out once, but she hid in the closet and growled, hissed, and bit at the adopter. We tried putting her in PetSmart, but she was determined to maim anyone who came close to her. (She lasted 2 days in the store.) So Ta**ra has been with us for 12 years, being her stubborn, spirited self. When she needed vaccines or other vet care, we took her to Indy Humane. She was basically not welcome back (without sedation, good luck giving that to her) because of her demand that no one touch her.

I was the only one she would let love on her, but she also had her limits with me. Just 2 weeks ago, she bit my nose after I was petting her back. Feisty until the end. She passed away from kidney failure last night.

Rest in peace, Ta**ra. You were definitely one of a kind.

Today, we highlight our beautiful bonded pair, Azalea & Larkspur.

Before we get into their description, we want to correct one main point: They were born feral, but they are NOT feral. They would never survive in a feral colony.

These cats have boundaries. They do not want to be picked up. They want you to pet them (where they want to be pet) and they want to play (they love feather wands). We recently changed their cat condo, and Larkspur looked to us for comfort and did not lash out from fear. Once they bond with you, you can enjoy scenes like this, where Azalea eats with her paw. (Thank you, Grace, for the video!)

Here's how your first month with them will look: You start them off in an unused room, such as a guest bedroom. You spend as much time as you can in the same room - at LEAST once a day - and each night you give them a can of warm, watered down Fancy Feast pate. As they eat the pate, you pet them a little on the head. That's how you start to build an everlasting bond with them.

They would do even better with a friendly resident cat to show them the ropes. But they will not do well with small and/or unpredictable children, nor with dogs. Yes, you have to muzzle Larkspur to trim his claws, but you can opt not to do claw trims.

If you know someone who can open their home to a pair of cats that will not tolerate being picked up, dressed up, taken outside for walks or messed with, please share. While these are not the best socialized cats on the planet, they ARE sweet cats who deserve a loving forever home.

These are not “cuddlers”. These are young adults that came to us from Indy Neighborhood Cats when they were kittens. They were born feral and we have been working on socialization for months. They do NOT like to be picked up, and allow us to pet them on their terms. But they LOVE playtime with tunnels and cat trees. ADOPTER WILL NEED TO CONTINUE SOCIALIZATION and BE PATIENT.

WE WILL ONLY ADOPT THEM AS A BONDED PAIR.

Azalea is a sweet girl who will be the first to come out of her shell. She loves attention. But she loves her nightly can of Fancy Feast pate more! This will be the secret to winning both of them over.

Larkspur will not let you move him, pick him up, or do anything to him, except pet him sometimes. He was the spiciest kitten when he came to us and hasn't changed much. He does not trust human hands. To trim claws, we do muzzle him. Thanks to another foster cat, Larkspur would come up to us begging for attention while the other foster cat got his daily loving. Larkspur ran off after a few pets. A PetSmart employee also helped with his socialization and now he comes out seeking attention when he gets his nightly canned food. Larkspur needs a covered litter box with no door or he'll overshoot the sides of the litter box. (The litter box in their cage is included with their adoption.)

These cats have not been around dogs or small children. We insist on a cat-only household with children over 12. They do great with other cats.

Azalea & Larkspur are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, tested negative for FIV/FeLV and are microchipped. Approximate date of birth is August 21, 2022.

It's getting late today, but we can't forget to highlight our favorite former tomcat.

Ghost is back at PetSmart after having recovered from a persistent upper respiratory infection. With a little kick from steroids and regular nebulizer treatments, his immune system finally kicked in and he is back to being healthy and giving us head bonks.

PLEASE READ UP ON FIV! Ghost CAN live with other cats that are not FIV+. Our favorite advocate for this is Cole & Marmalade!

Ghost has already lived a long, hard life. He is now looking for a comfortable home where he can just be spoiled.

Ghost was a tom cat who was taken in by a nice couple that gave him shelter, food and care. He was diagnosed with FIV and heartworm. The couple contacted us when they knew Ghost would need further care and a good forever home. We worked with the vet team at IndyHumane who conducted radiographs, testing, neuter and eventually teeth cleaning and extraction. Ghost is now heartworm antigen negative (breeding females are gone), but still heartworm antibody positive (males not dead yet). He has no clinical signs of heartworm anymore.

Ghost is a big guy that is not the best at grooming himself. He will need someone who can give him regular brushing with his favorite comb (included in his adoption), and occasionally make sure the back end is clean. He is shy, so we want to find him a quiet home with no dogs and no small children. He does fine with other cats. Jett will hiss in his face and he will not respond.

Ghost gets a can of Friskie's shreds nightly and loves to give us a head bonk before he dives in to his favorite meal!

Ghost is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, tested negative for FeLV. He is FIV positive. He is approximately 7 years old.

Our newest addition at PetSmart is Licorice.

Licorice was originally adopted from us in May 2020. Licorice had been trapped at a feral colony feeding site. She was immediately taken for spay/neuter. She was spayed and stayed with us for extended recovery time since she was pregnant at the time of spay. That's when we found out she is not feral, but is the sweetest little shy cat! Unfortunately, Licorice was picked up by an Animal Control Officer and taken to the Humane Society with an eye injury this past summer. Thanks to her microchip, she was returned to us. We were unable to contact the adopters.

Licorice's eye injury turned out not to be an injury, but Eosinophilic Keratitis, a possible symptom of Feline Herpes Virus (which 90-95% of all cats have). Licorice will need an eye drop once daily for the rest of her life to keep the eye from clouding. (We will send her with the bottle we have, and instructions to get more. Approximately $68 per month.) We have developed a routine with her that we give her the eye drop, then a can of cat food, warmed with hot water. She does great!

Licorice should be okay with other cats as long as they don't bully her. We do not know how she would do with dogs. She is not fond of being picked up, but loves attention and talking to you. She can be temperamental and may swat at you, but then she forgives you and wants attention again. Because of this temperament, we recommend placement with older children (over 12).

Licorice is currently eating Kirkland Cat Maintenance kibble and one can of Friskie's pate (various flavors, hot water added) daily. She's put on some weight, but should slim back down with more activity.

Licorice is now 6 years old, spayed, updated vaccines, microchipped and re-tested negative for FIV/FeLV.

Look at this foot! Look at it!

This is Jett. He's craves attention. But he has boundaries.

Jett (and his sister Molly) were adopted from us as kittens to an elderly lady in July 2020. The lady passed away in May 2024 from Alzheimer's. Molly and Jett stayed in the house with the lady's sister (who was her caregiver). Unfortunately, the sister was NOT a cat person and I was called to pick them up on New Year's Eve 2024. Molly and Jett were unsocialized and traumatized. They had not been out of the house since a vet visit in 2022. They have been with us for a year now and love the attention they get from customers.

Jett is a ham, nudging for attention, but lets us know with a hiss or swat if we've pet him somewhere he doesn't like (usually his tail) or is otherwise displeased. He needs an adopter that will be patient with him and tolerate his attitude. He needs to be the ONLY PET in the home. He does not like other cats (Jett will walk over and hiss at Ghost for no reason) or even the smell of other cats on our hands. He has not been around dogs nor small children. He should be okay with older children that respect his boundaries. His big weakness is catnip, which he will eat!

We originally thought Jett was bonded to his sister Molly, but when she had to go to foster care for a bladder stone, both cats showed many signs of being LESS stressed. So Jett is now available for adoption solo.

Happy New Year! The year may just be beginning, but we have a lot going on.

Miss Molly (pictured below) has a bladder stone that needs to be removed surgically. Her surgery is next Monday. We are asking for donations to help with our cost for the surgery. You can donate (ANY amount helps!) via Paypal or Venmo; just find "Central Indiana Foster Cats" on either platform.

Cleaning/feeding takes 30-60 minutes.

Both will hiss when displeased with something, and both have swatted us. However, once they get comfortable, they are very sweet, nudging for attention. Molly is more outgoing, wanting more attention. Jett is still defensive, and will sometimes hiss when we pet him, but is overall a good cat. They need an adopter that will be patient with them, give them a chance to come out of their shells and be comfortable (over MONTHS, not just days or weeks). They need to be the only pets in the home. They have not liked our other cats (Jett will walk over and hiss at Ghost), and have not been around dogs nor small children. Their weakness is catnip!
