Marley Meadows Animal Sanctuary is a vegan animal sanctuary previously located in Egg Harbor Township, NJ. It was originally co founded in 2017 in Egg Harbor Township along with my mother on her small property and animals. My unfortunate lifelong experience with abuse and trauma from those who should have loved me the most has left me driven to live a life of service to those who deserve it most; the animals, our Earth, our children, and those who have been forgotten and mislead.
The mission to spread vegan awareness NOW was fueled by the rescue of our first cattle, Daisy Mae, in 2016. She was severely malnourished and the farmer selling her life away just wanted to pass her on because she was not a valuable business asset. No, not even for a small dairy farmer. Daisy Mae was a scour infested baby and she should have been through proper testing and given the proper nutrients to grow extra strong since she was already fighting against uncertain odds. Daisy Mae was not under my watchful eye at all as a baby because I personally was healing from emotional abuse the took a toll on my entire body.
Daisy Mae and I bonded like sisters that following summer. She would lick the sweat clean off my bare arms and neck and I would hose her off and give her fresh water. We couldn't do this job without each other. Until we had to. Daisy Mae passed away and it was way too soon. She was not a healthy heifer (we knew this and that farmer knew that, too) but we gave her the best life we could. I loved my Mae for as long as she would allow me and I hope we can continue to honor her by rescuing more bovine and providing the proper nutrition to them for many years to come. She and I were a lot alike in so many ways it was quite remarkable, really. Daisy Mae never let her disability show or slow her down! She was so kind and gentle and loved her snacks, too! Best of all, like me, she never had to experience abuse ever again. We made sure of that.
For my 3 boys, the vegan passion truly developed when their turkey eggs were hatched and veganism became something they chose freely. Becky and Pecky (the two turkeys) were raised inside our home and the kids had enough empathy to know that their babies did not want to die. Although most of their diet had already been plant based, poultry had been that last hurtle and they went soaring on their own. Proud mom moment!
