The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in partnership with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and state health departments is investigating reports of gross contamination of IV tubing manufactured by ICU Medical and distributed by Medline. Multiple states have reported visible contamination in the form of small black dots on the internal walls of the drip chambers, with contaminated products originating from more than 15 different lot numbers. Affected states are still gathering information on implicated lot numbers. CDC has not received any reports of patient infections or adverse events linked to the contaminated product.
