Stellar & Bashful Update!

PLEASE SHARE TO HELP THESE GUYS FIND A FOREVER HOME!

These two sweet boys we rescued last week from the East Valley Shelter (San Fernando Valley, CA) are really starting to blossom! They’re still a little shy, but every day they’re learning that people mean love and kindness.

Pupdate from their amazing foster mom:

Bashful (Bash) is still timid but secretly competitive when it comes to attention. One night both he and Stellar ended up in their foster’s lap because Bash didn’t want to miss out. He’s also got a funny quirk… he barks at anything on a person’s head! Hats, towels, even messy buns are just too suspicious for him.

Stellar (Stelly is his new nickname) might not be very photogenic, but in person he’s absolutely adorable. He has the long body of a greyhound with fluffy Pekingese fur, which makes him perfectly awkward and cute. He’s still working on house training, and both boys need dental work and a bit of extra vetting, but they’re making wonderful progress. Stelly's snaggle tooth is perfection. It is always out and super funny.

Stelly and Bash are learning to trust, love, and relax. We think they didn’t have much gentle human contact before, but they’re turning into total Velcro dogs who just want to be close.

Huge thanks to their amazing foster family for helping these boys feel safe and loved.

Stellar and Bashful are a bonded pair and are now looking for their forever home together!

Our sweet Show Dog Simon has been a trooper lately! He’s on meds for Cushing’s disease, had his dental, and will be getting neutered soon.

But nothing can stop this happy boy! He loves cuddling and playing with his Cocker siblings and is completely obsessed with his pink ball.

We still have about $1,000 in vet bills to cover, and any help, donations, shares, or virtual belly rubs would mean the world. Your support helps Simon stay healthy, happy, and full of wiggles and tail wags!

🎉 Happy Birthday to Our Founder & CEO, Elizabeth! 🎉

Today we celebrate the heart and soul behind Second Chance Cocker Rescue, Inc. - our founder and CEO, Elizabeth Fitzgerald!

For more than 22 years, Elizabeth has dedicated her life to rescuing, rehoming, and rehabilitating Cocker Spaniels, small dogs, and even cats in need. Her compassion and tireless work have saved countless lives and inspired an entire community to join in the mission of giving animals their second chance. 💕

Under Elizabeth’s leadership, Second Chance Cocker Rescue has grown into more than just a rescue - it’s a movement of love and advocacy. With the creation of the Second Chance Spay/Neuter Clinic and Arlo’s Sanctuary, Elizabeth and our volunteer board have worked endlessly to reduce pet overpopulation and provide low-cost spay and neuter services to our community. While we haven’t yet had the opportunity to launch our children’s education program, it remains an important part of our future vision.

Since opening in April 2024, our Second Chance Spay/Neuter Clinic has already performed an incredible 6,665 spay and neuter surgeries - a powerful step toward a future with fewer homeless pets.

We’re also excited to share that we’re currently in the process of adding dental equipment so we can soon provide safe and affordable dental care for pets in our community. 🦷🐾

As for today, Elizabeth is spending her special day doing what she loves most - loving on her precious pups, Abby and Bodhi, and celebrating the lives that make her mission so meaningful.

Elizabeth, thank you for your unwavering dedication and for inspiring us all to believe that love, compassion, and hard work truly can change the world - one animal and one SNIP at a time.

In honor of Elizabeth’s birthday and her lifelong commitment to animals, please consider making a donation to support her mission:

🐾 Tuco Update – Ready for His Forever Home! 🐾

Remember Tuco, the sweet pup we rescued from the East Valley shelter last Tuesday? Here’s the latest from his foster family!

Tuco ( ) is an energetic 6-year-old small dog, a mix that looks like a Dachshund, Cocker, and Poodle. He’s sweet, affectionate, and loves people - he’ll happily sit in your lap for hours and soak up all the pets you can give.

Some highlights about Tuco:

Potty trained (just fixed, so he’s wearing a belly band to prevent licking)

Walks well on leash with no pulling, and stays calm around other dogs

Enjoys brisk 30-minute walks, then he’s ready to relax

Good with older kids (like 12+) but may play bite or jump, so he’s probably best in a home without small children

Quiet pup - he’s only barked once (for an Amazon delivery!)

Tuco is learning not to jump, and he’s already making progress!

He was pulled from the shelter along with Stellar ( ) and Bashful ( ).

He’s ready to find his forever home just in time for the holidays. While we usually focus on Cocker Spaniels, every dog is precious - and Tuco is looking for a family who will adore him as much as he adores them.

SCULLY IS STILL WAITING… WAY TOO LONG

WE NEED YOUR HELP - PLEASE SHARE SCULLY WITH ALL YOUR FRIENDS.

Sweet Scully has been with us at the Sanctuary far too long. While he’s receiving excellent care, nothing compares to having a home, a real family to call his own.
We don’t know why he keeps getting overlooked - he’s truly one of a kind and so ready to love someone forever.

To help, we’ll send Scully home with plenty of food and toys through the holidays. All you need to provide is love, comfort, and a soft spot for him to rest his head.

Scully is our happy, goofy, ball-loving boy!
He’s around 8 years old, about 40 pounds, healthy, good with other dogs, and full of personality. Scully might not be a Cocker Spaniel, but for anyone out there who loves a dog with a sweet mix of many breeds, he’s your guy. He’s the perfect blend of playful energy and snuggly affection - his tail never stops wagging!

Scully loves chasing a ball, cuddling up for attention, and hanging with other playful dogs. He’d thrive in an active home with room to run and a family who’ll make him part of their everyday life.

Located in Jamestown, CA
Adoption fee: $100 - which goes right back to us helping more dogs in need!
Apply to adopt: https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=1357705&name=Scully+
If you have questions, please reach out! 805.687.4674.

PLEASE share this post and help Scully finally find the home he’s been dreaming of. He’ll give you loyalty, laughter, and love - all wrapped up in a very waggy, wiggly package.

🌟 LILI HAS BEEN RESCUED! 🌟

Good news! Lili has officially been pulled from the high-kill shelter in Las Vegas and is safe! Look at her smiling face! Precious!

From her temporary foster mom, Lynn, who pulled her:

It took 30 minutes just to get her out of the kennel because she was so scared and defensive, but the moment she was out, she jumped right onto me and hasn’t left my side since. She is absolutely darling, full of love, and ready to start healing. 💖

She’s being extremely polite with my dogs (although she’s wisely keeping her distance from Belle - she knows a brat when she sees one!).

Lili will stay here and decompress until she has a transporter to Jamestown, CA or finds her forever family.

Thank you to Lynn and everyone who shared, donated, or just sent positive vibes - this scared senior now has hope, love, and a chance at a new life. 🐾

URGENT HELP NEEDED FOR LILI

This sweet 7-year-old Cocker Spaniel, Lili, was left at a high-kill shelter in Las Vegas, NV and is absolutely terrified. She’s trembling in her kennel, confused, and shutting down.

We’re working to get her out and transport her safely to Jamestown, CA, where she can see a vet, decompress and start to heal.

We don’t know why someone would surrender their beloved pet to such a place, but what we do know is that Lili deserves a second chance - not a death sentence.

Please help us cover her transport and vet care so we can give this scared senior the soft bed and gentle hands she’s been missing.

Donations of any size truly make a difference.

🐾 Pupdate on Show Dog Simon 🐾

Our sweet former Show Dog Simon has had a rough few weeks. He’s been diagnosed with Cushing’s disease and is now on medication to help manage it. Today he went in for his dental, which took quite a while, so his neuter has been postponed for two more weeks.

Through it all, Simon has stayed his charming, brave self. He’s starting to feel his oats again and show that spark we all love so much in our Cockers.

We still have about a $1,000 bill left to pay off for his treatments and care. If you’re able to help in any way - whether through donations, sharing his story, or sending love - we’d be so grateful.

Thank you for supporting Show Dog Simon and helping this special boy get back to feeling his best!

Holiday Help for Stellar & Bashful

You already know and love our sweet boys, Stellar and Bashful - and we’re so happy to share this little video of them playing in their temporary foster home’s backyard. Their tails haven’t stopped wagging since yesterday - RESCUE DAY! Pupdate from their foster mom, they are sweet and shy. It will take them some time to decompress from being in the shelter.

Next up, they’ll be heading to our vets in Northern California for some much-needed dental work, vet check-ups, and to be neutered. The transport and vet bills will add up, and as a small Cocker rescue that sometimes opens our arms to non-cockers, we could use a little help from our wonderful village.

If you’re able to donate, share, foster, or adopt, it truly makes a difference. Your support keeps rescues like Stellar and Bashful safe, healthy, and one step closer to their forever homes.

Thank you, as always, for being part of their journey - we couldn’t do this without you.

We wanted to provide an update about Hellie.

When Hellie was relinquished to us, we weren’t aware that another rescue was also involved in helping her. After completing her vet check and full bloodwork, we learned that another rescue has an existing adoption agreement with her former owner and will be taking Hellie back into their care.

Although we have already spent about $500 on her medical care, including the vet exam and full blood panel, we understand that some of our supporters may be disappointed that Hellie will not remain with us. We want to be completely transparent - if you donated toward Hellie’s care and would prefer a refund, we are happy to provide one. You may also choose to have your donation redirected to another dog in need. Please reach out to Elizabeth to let us know your preference.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support. Your generosity allows us to keep helping dogs in need and ensuring each one gets the best possible care and chance at a loving home.
