More than 700 animals enter our facility every year. Help us help them. Please donate! The majority of animals entering our facility are strays.
Marshfield Area Pet Shelter, Inc is a private non-profit animal welfare organization with a seven member Board of Directors. We have four full-time employees who cover 7 day a week shifts from 7am to 8pm. Other shelters comparable to the size of our shelter generally have approximately 10-13 employees. But thanks to the dedication of 40+ volunteers, we are able to provide daily care to more than 7
00 animals every year. We have contracts with local municipalities to house stray dogs and cats while we attempt to locate their owners. The following municipalities pay us to provide this service: City of Marshfield, Village of Spencer, Townships of McMillan, Richfield, Lincoln and Rock. If an owner does not come forward to reclaim their pet, the animal is then spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and place up for adoption. Other animal intakes include pets taken into custody by law enforcement, stray dogs and cats from non-contracted areas, owner pet surrenders and pets transferred in from other organizations. Animal intakes other than our contracted areas are dependent on the amount of space we have available at our facility. We proudly follow the Shelter Medicine’s guidance for Capacity for Care. A waitlist is available for when space opens up. All animal shelters are overwhelmed and overcrowded. The number of pet surrender requests continues to increase and hundreds of strays are found every year. Pet overpopulation has increased significantly. The only solution to this dilemma is to facilitate more low cost spay and neuter options, implement TNR efforts and educate people on the importance of spaying and neutering! As Marshfield’s first animal welfare organization, we are transforming the way our community views animals and animal welfare. Our future goals include innovative education programs for the public and investments in outreach, advocacy and affordable spay/neuter options for the Marshfield area. State Kennel License #492209

Hey there! We're Bamm-Bamm and Pebbles, a couple of super sweet 2-month-old puppies! We're probably the friendliest, most outgoing little pups you'll ever meet! Our absolute favorite things are greeting new friends, having wrestle-mania with each other, and, of course, playing with all our fun toys. We're about 8 lbs right now, so we're expecting to be small to medium-sized when we're all grown up. Honestly, there's just so much to love about us - we'll be a paws-itive, wonderful addition to any family! If you're ready for cuteness and fun, apply to meet us! NOTE: we do not have to be adopted together, but another dog in the home to learn from would be great! 🐾 www.marshfieldpetshelter.org/adopt

Hi there! We're Dr Krieger, Sterling (pending adoption), Cheryl, Pam and Lana (pending adoption) and we're 2 months old! Our mama, Malory, and all of us were rescued from living on the streets. We'll admit, we were a bit spicy and can still be quite shy around people, but we've gotten so much better! If you're ready to open your heart and home to a little kitten who comes with a sprinkle of personality, apply to meet us! And don't forget to think about adopting two kittens because bringing home a pair offers tons of benefits like keeping each other company and entertained! 😺💕 www.marshfieldpetshelter.org/adopt

👉 Working Cat Needs a Home! 👈
Ocean came to us as a stray with her two kittens. She was in a foster home, but after her kittens were big enough to be on their own, Ocean was brought back to the shelter because she did NOT enjoy living indoors. We would like to place her into a working cat home where she can thrive. She is spayed, vaccinated and ear tipped. There is no fee to adopt a working cat. 😺 For more information about our working cat program, and to complete an application, visit our website: www.marshfieldpetshelter.org/working-cats

Hello there! We're the Godfather kittens—Vito (pending adoption), Sonny (pending adoption), Fredo, and Apollonia—and we're about 2 months old. When we first arrived at the shelter back in June, we admit we were a little... spicy (you might have even seen our video!). 😼 But after soaking up all the love and patience in a wonderful foster home, we've transformed into incredibly sweet and social kittens. And here's a little secret: two of us have extra toes! If you're searching for an adorable new companion or a purr-fect friend for your feline, apply to visit us! 😺💕 www.marshfieldpetshelter.org/adopt

Located in Marshfield, Wisconsin, the Marshfield Area Pet Shelter is a 501(c)3 non-profit animal welfare organization serving the greater Marshfield area. MAPS moved into a brand new state-of-the-art facility located at 3500 Downwind Dr (behind Slumberland and across from Wildwood Animal Hospital) on August 20, 2020. Due to covid-19, we do not have open hours for visiting our adoptable animals. Appointments can be scheduled to meet our adoptable pets once we receive an approved adoption application.
We began our lifesaving mission in September of 2011 when a small group of concerned citizens took the time to review the current process for handling stray animals for the city of Marshfield. In reviewing the process, a necessity was realized; our community desperately needed a humane pet shelter and more importantly, our pets deserved a higher quality of care than they had been afforded for many years. With the passing of new Wisconsin legislation to protect dogs and their owners in June of 2011 and with our stray animals being taken to two separate animal control facilities, the timing was right to act on our vision to build a safe haven for animals in need. A facility provides a temperature controlled environment, getting pets out of extreme heat and cold conditions. It allows us to provide veterinary care, spay and neutering, socialization, microchipping and adoption for homeless pets. A shelter for the Marshfield area enables us to lend a hand to other overcrowded area shelters. It serves our community as a resource center for animal related situations, questions and education.
Our 501c3 non-profit organization has numerous supporters, donors and contributors who believe in our mission. We have a board of directors, several shelter committees and a strong presence in our community. All of our fundraising events are great successes, reinforcing our belief the Marshfield community is ready and eager to embrace and support a humane effort to improve the quality of life for all animals. In September 2015, we moved into the old airport terminal building at 210 W 29th Street. Renovations were completed that summer to help us safely care for Marshfield's homeless animals, a first for the Marshfield community.
Capital campaign efforts raised $1.5 million to build a new facility. We broke ground on that facility in August 2019 and we moved into our new 9,000 sq ft facility on August 20, 2020.
