I want to let everyone know that Nikki the Painted Conure and Buddy the African Grey found their new Moms recently. I'm so happy for them! What I'm really surprised about is that Zooey, the African Senegal (who may be the best hang out buddy and real sweetie of the whole bunch) is still here with me!?! She's a real love sponge. She's even coming to me to hang out! If you have bird experience, are a female and have love and time to give (because she demands a lot) give me a shout out on Facebook Messenger. We also have Pal, the Green Winged Macaw that will be looking for a home shortly. Macaw experience only.

Sweet Miss Buddy the Grey went home with her new Mom and Dad today. She's in good hands and ready to start her new pampered life! Many tears shed here today at the rescue after she left. She was my late wife Nancee's personal bird and not part of the rescue. She is such a sweet girl and I am quite fond of her. Live a long and happy life little girl! Your new momma's got ya! 💕

BUDDY:
I have what I believe is a female Congo African Grey named Buddy. She is one of our personal birds that Nancee and I adopted from a rescue (that is no longer active) several years ago. The only reason that I am looking for a home for her is because she is a lady's bird and won't step up for males. She hasn't been off her cage in nearly a year. She was my wife's bird. She and I get along quite well. I can give and get beak kisses and beak play with her and she enjoys interacting with me. She is quite young. Under ten years old for sure and been with us most of her life. She is a fairly quiet bird. Very calm and balanced. You would be hard pressed to find a better behaved bird than her. Her feathers are gorgeous and perfect. She deserves the world and I can't give it to her. Her talking slowed down after my wife passed but I know from the past that she has the ability. She is a real prize and will make someone a wonderful lifelong companion. She absolutely has my heart. She is so patient. Her big brother Joe (my 20+ yr old CAG) in the next cage has been trying to teach her his rascally ways but she's pretty good so far. IF you're a female you couldn't ask for a better bird. Be ready for a long term commitment with this one.

ZOOEY:
A bird that REALLY needs a new home is Zooey, a sexed female African Senegal that is approx 18 years old. She spent her entire life in the same home. Her owner (female) said she didn't have time to care for her anymore. She is an absolute love bug (as long as you are a female). She LOVES being with her person, loves and needs LOTS time and attention and will hang out for hours. She does not like men and has attacked them if they get too close to her when she is with her preferred female (such as sitting on the couch next to them) or if said male puts their hands in her cage. I have developed a relationship with her and can change out toys or food bowls inside her cage along with cage cleaning. I can also pick her up and return her to her cage if she gets on the floor. She has the sweetest, really high pitched voice! Normally she would have been placed right away but with things being how they are, she has been here at least a year. She REALLY needs her new home and will be a wonderful companion for someone who has the time to devote to her. (Oh, and I have never seen her fail to go to any woman). She does not like children. This one's a real prize!

First of all I would like to thank all of you who have, and attempted to, contact me here at the rescue expressing interest in adopting one of these precious little souls. I am more than pleased and excited about your responses. I would like to ask for your patience and consideration concerning the adoption process at this time.
In the partnership that my late wife Nancee I had in this rescue my primary role was the care, feeding and working with the birds we had here along with being involved with all the decision making made about the rescue and the birds. My wife Nancee was the public side of the rescue and took care of all the public contact, paperwork and legal/financial issues in addition to the daily care of the birds.
I need to ask all of you that have inquired about (and started the process of) adopting a bird from me to have patience with the process. You are not being ignored or forgotten. Nancee was the sole author and keeper of all the correspondence, forms, processes, computers, computer files and on-line prescence for the rescue. Because of the speed of the decline in her health we did not have time to hand off of this information that we had anticipated we would. Some of it I have no access to. Much of it I have had to search for, learn or recreate. This is not your issue and I apologize for not being prompt enough.
My primary concern is the well being and welfare of the birds in my care, for now AND in their future homes. It always has been. Hence my primary role in the rescue. I have faith in the fact that if you have patience enough to follow me through the process in adopting one of these birds that you will also have the patience to care for it once it's in your home. I intend to be thorough and patient in finding good adopters for these birds (some of them are long time personal birds of mine) with the payoff of having you, I and especially the bird be happy with the result. Have patience, hang in there and we will get this taken care of.
Thank you all and love your birdies!

I have 5 birds that are eligible for adoption. They are a mixture of rescue birds and my own personal birds. With the closing of the rescue I have to cut my flock down. I will warn you that these are very special birds to me and I am going to very thorough and picky about the homes they go to but on the other hand, these are some pretty special birds. They have been with me since a year and a half ago to 13 years ago. More info to follow.

Unfortunately, after an 8 year battle with cancer my wife and co-founder of A Safe Landing for Parrots Nancee Roberts passed away peacefully in her sleep on the evening of February 2nd of this year. She was the driving force behind our parrot rescue and a fierce defender, protector, caregiver and advocate for parrots during her life. Her passion for our feathered companions was boundless and she spent the final years of her life doing just what she wanted, loving her granddaughter and doing everything in her power to better the lives of all our feathered babies. She kept parrots for 30+ years, owned her own Parrot based store All Things Parrot, spent time as the president of our local bird club, the Amazona Society Michgan Representative, owned and ran a parrot care and supply store "All Things Parrot" and finally as the co-owner and founder of our rescue. She will be sorely missed by our friends, family, the bird community and especially by every bird she she was able to help and those she would have.
I (her husband Ken) was and am just as involved and passionate about this cause and will be taking care of the business concerning our rescue as well as the care of the birds in the future (Which I always have. My selfishly favorite part!).
Yes, we still have birds up for adoption but will not be taking any more in. Our web site is no longer being maintained, our rescue phone number is shut down but our Facebook site is still active and working. I can be reached by messenger on our page for the immediate future and I will be updating all of you soon with more info. Don't forget us! Love your birdies!!

Pixie proved once again that we can never underestimate a bird. After a grooming session, she was let loose in our bedroom and ended up climbing onto Ken's hand and arm.

ZOOEY - SENEGAL

Zooey is a delightful Senegal, if you are a woman. He was surrendered due to his aggression toward men, and he has a bite that is not to be messed with.

He loves his head scratches, has the most darling little voice and loves to just hang out with you. He will take a little time to bond to another woman, so you will need to be understanding and patient with him. Once he accepts you, he will be your best buddy.

The Adoption Fee for Zooey will be $250 and will include his cage. Female applicants only, no exception. You MUST complete our application, on our website www.asafelandingforparrots.org

PIXIE - Olive Throated Conure

Pixie is a sweet little bird, in need of a home that is able to continue the work we have done with her. She was recently diagnosed with an enlarged heart, so we are searching for a family who is willing to keep up with her medical needs. (Currently she is asymptomatic and seems to have a normal energy level. )

Pixie is a very vocal little girl who says many words and makes noises in the cutest little teeny voice. She will talk and whistle with you forever! Her cage is set up to accommodate her arthritic feet, and her ability to climb around has improved since landing here. She is getting used to hands, will step up once she trusts you but her grip strength is a little weak.

If you feel drawn to care for Pixie, the first step is to complete our application. (If you do not have experience with conure or medium sized birds, we will not be able to consider your application.) We will request an Adoption Fee of $200 which will cover her past vet bills, and her cage will be required to go with her. Our application is on our website, Www.asafelandingforparrots.org
