Last week, we wrapped up another incredible summer with Lexington’s Summer Youth Job Training Program at Headwater Farm! In partnership with the City of Lexington, we were proud to host rising 10th–12th graders as they explored potential careers in agriculture, gained hands-on experience, and deepened their connection to land and community.

These young folks brought curiosity, dedication, and so much life to the farm. They worked hard and learned new skills like mulching, mowing, weeding, fertilizing techniques, and more! We are so sad to see them go, but so excited and proud of the amazing things we know they will accomplish in the future!🌱💛☀️

Hi friends! We are hosting a Sauerkraut Demo on Thursday from 4-6pm at the London Ferrill Community Garden! We will be chatting about fermentation and harvesting cabbages and carrots from the garden too. Bring a jar, and take home some kraut (while supplies last!)

Last week, we had the absolute pleasure of hosting an incredible team from Whole Foods at Headwater (Fritz Farm)!

Not only did we share a ton of laughs, but we also made some serious progress on the farm. Here’s what we accomplished together:
• Mulched pathways
• Laid straw in garden beds
• Spread nutrient-rich worm castings
• Got weeds under control
• Seeded squash and sunflowers 🌻

We’re so grateful for their energy, enthusiasm, and hard work!

Seedleaf’s Mission

Seedleaf exists to nourish communities by growing and sharing food. More than ever, people lack connection. Seedleaf does its best work when neighbors share work and food and come together over common tasks and needs. As neighbors and volunteers join together in our 11 u-pick community gardens, they grow connections: to one another, to the soil, to their food, to themselves. These connections cultivate meaning and a sense of belonging. They bear untold fruit through the growing seasons to come.

But connected isn’t all Seedleaf works to address. Food insecurity throughout our service areas is common. Many Lexington residents live in what are called “food deserts,” places within a community where a concentrated number of households lack a car and are further than a half mile from a grocery store. Food insecurity and the inability to obtain healthy food puts adults and children at an increased risk for diabetes, obesity, malnutrition and many other diet-related health problems. We work to increase our neighbors' access to healthy food — one free, u-pick garden at a time.
