We recently received an update on a very sweet pup, Thor, who came to HSNEI with a congenital eyesight issue. We are happy to report it’s not stopping him from living his very best life with his forever family. His new mom says:

“We had the blessing of adopting Thor, and we couldn't be happier! He fits in so well with our family and we absolutely adore him!

Some things he loves:
🐾Chewing on antlers
🐾Playing outside with his sister Lady
🐾Sleeping on his spot on the couch
🐾Camping
🐾Eating

Sometimes seeing objects around him is a little challenging for him with his eyesight, but that doesn't stop him from being a happy and playful dog!”

We are so thankful to each and every adopter who opens their home to a cat or dog but we are especially grateful to those families willing to take on a new pet with special needs. THANK YOU FOR ADOPTING THIS ADORABLE BOY!!

It’s amazing how much fun a litter of kittens can have with some rope, wood, and a key on a string. THANK YOU to the generous donor who makes these amazing cat scratchers and brought one by along with some bags of kitten food the other day. As much as Sutton, Sam, Sloane, and Stella are enjoying their playtime, though, they would much rather get to go home with their forever families so they can play like this all the time. These four little ones are still waiting for homes at HSNEI. Starting out with a dozen puppies sure seemed like a lot at first but most of them were scooped right up into the arms of their new families. Somehow these adorable boys and girls have been overlooked. Hetty, Clarabell, John H. Watson, and Lord Peter Whimsy are hoping there’s still enough summer left for them to get out there and do all the fun things the other pups are getting to do in their new homes. Swimming, hiking, boating, fairs, and soaking up the sun on the beach are just a few of the things the other pups have been up to. These four are getting awfully tired of looking at the same four walls of their kennels and wondering if they’ll get to be the next to go home. If you’ve been looking for a new four-legged family member these guys and gals would love to meet you. For more information or to fill out an adoption application visit www.hsnei.org/adoptabledogs today!!

Buttons and Cloud are HSNEI’s two tiniest residents currently waiting for a home. These little ones would usually be learning about what it means to be a cat from their mother, but unfortunately, these two are having to face the world with just each other. Everything is new to them, including litter box training, which can be a little tricky when you can barely get over the litter box. Thankfully, with World's Best Cat Litter, these two are catching on quickly. THANK YOU, World’s Best, for helping us care for these little ones and all of our other cats and kittens while they await their forever homes!!

Sometimes it’s just too hot out to go play in the Big Yard, so we have to find other ways to keep the dogs busy. Handsome Rico spent the afternoon helping clean out the Meet and Greet room today and did a particularly phenomenal job sorting through bags of donated dog clothes. He’s not sure what Dolly would do if she had been waiting for a family for nearly six months now, but he’s pretty sure she would put on a big smile, keep her chin up, and not give up hope just like him. For more information on this sweet, playful, snuggly boy, visit www.hsnei.org/adoptabledogs.

After Veronica (now Elly) went home, we received a very short but sweet update:

“We are in total love with Elly.”

With her big puppy dog eyes, super soft fur, and quiet, thoughtful demeanor we had a feeling that would be the case. Elly was one sweet pup and from the looks of it she’s been settling in nicely with her new family doing everything from getting lots of snuggles to going for her first boat ride. We are so happy for Elly and her new mom and dad. THANK YOU FOR ADOPTING!!

HAPPY NORDIC FEST 2025 EVERYONE!! We recently had two incredible youngsters hold a very successful lemonade stand for HSNEI. They raised nearly $200 and then purchased all of these great items for the cats and dogs waiting for homes. If you look hard, you can see adoptable Phoebe doing a very thorough inspection of all the donated goodies. She gave everything a paws up except for the blue squeaky pig, which she gladly passed on to one of the pups. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HARD WORK, BOYS, AND FOR BEING SUCH AMAZING ANIMAL ADVOCATES!!

THESE LITTLE ONES NEED YOU!! We currently have THIRTY-THREE cats and kittens at HSNEI under the age of one. Several of them have spent a good deal of their lives in the shelter, and many newer arrivals have been waiting for weeks or months already. Kittens should be free to run, play, and explore, but unfortunately, that’s not easy to do living in a cat condo. Space is limited, as is the number of staff and volunteers needed to give these sweet little ones the love and snuggles they deserve. PLEASE-if you’ve been considering adopting a new feline friend, visit www.hsnei.org/adoptablecats to fill out an adoption application. If you can’t adopt, you can help by fostering, volunteering, or donating. We are currently at capacity for cats and kittens, so every adoptive or foster home will free up space for us to help that many more cats!!
