Mrs. John Jacob Astor
The first photograph of Mrs. John Jacob Astor since the Titanic disaster where her husband lost his life. With Mrs. Astor, who was Miss Madeline Force, is the colonel's favorite dog, which is her faithful companion and comrade. c. 1913

"Kitty," pet Airedale of John Jacob Astor IV and his second wife, Madeleine Talmage Force Astor. Kitty and Astor were both lost at sea during the infamous sinking of the "unsinkable" RMS Titanic on the ship's maiden voyage. The expectant Mrs. Astor secured a seat in a lifeboat and survived.

Astor was a millionaire who made his fortune in the fur trade. He founded the American Fur Company in 1808. At the time of his death in 1848, he was the wealthiest person in the United States.

Today was good bye to ten beautiful Airedale puppies. As always we were so happy with those that trust us for their new family member. We ask questions, require a form to be submitted and even then it's hard to know what life our puppies will have. We pour so much of ourselves into these puppies we just want loving homes with families that will respect the breed. This group just like all past families exceeded our expectations. Our puppies will be loved and cared for all their lives. Now we sigh, empty nesters once more and look forward to our next!

6 week Vet Check and first vaccination for our litter of 10 Airedales. This post is really not about the pups, well maybe sorta. PAH here in Crossville has given all 8 of our dogs excellent care since starting care under Dr. Lisa. Truly a professional friendly, and caring facility that wants to provide the best care possible for your best friend. Dr. Lisa is outstanding and her staff is too. For the first time since our dogs started care there the facility is taking on new clients. If you're in our area, don't wait, run! Yes I and Airedale of Tennessee absolutely recommend Dr. Lisa and Plateau Animal Hospital. (PAH)

2025 is the 125th anniversary year of the Airedale Terrier Club. In the February AKC Gazette, arriving in your in-box on Monday, breed columnist Nancy A.
