Overcrowding continues to be an issue at Kern County Animal Shelter, where population has exceeded twice the capacity

Hi! I'm Ella, a 6-year-old, female white-and-blue American pit bull terrier! Don’t I have the most gorgeous markings? I think so too! I am hoping I’ll stand out to you because I would love to find a family of my own here in SLO County. I came from LA to make room in my previous shelter for the owned animals rescued during the wildfires. I was happy to help them, and now I’m hoping you’ll help me. Can you like, share or comment on my photo so that I can find the home I’ve been dreaming of? I’ll be here at Woods SLO from 12-4 p.m., waiting for a family to adopt me.

Update:

Meatball is still urgently seeking a forever home and should be the only pet in the household. His current owners may be compelled to place him in a shelter, which would leave his future uncertain.

Orignal Post:

🐾 Meet Meatball, a lovable 3-year-old-ish Bulldog mix looking for his forever home or a foster family immediately! He needs to be the ONLY dog in the household, as he doesn't do well with other dogs. Meatball is friendly with most people and adores kids, though he hasn't been tested with cats. He’s kennel and potty trained, making him a fantastic companion for any suitable home. Currently located in New Cuyama, he’s ready to bring joy and love to your life! If you’re interested in adopting or fostering this sweet boy, please reach out today! 🏡

Rescued, Not Forgotten: A Mother’s Will to Survive

For over a two months, we searched for a mother dog who had disappeared while pregnant. We didn’t know if she’d survived, if her pups made it, or if anyone had helped her. When we finally found her, we realized she had been doing whatever she could to keep herself alive—not just for her own sake, but for her babies.

In her desperation, she was eating grass, hay—anything—to keep her stomach full, not for nourishment, but to make sure she could produce enough for her pups. That’s the instinct of a mother. Her body was worn, but her spirit remained.

This isn’t just about dogs. It’s about mothers of all kinds. Struggling, surviving, doing everything they can with what little they have—not always visible in our everyday lives. Whether they walk on two legs or four, motherhood is a journey of sacrifice and resilience.

Our nonprofit doesn’t just rescue animals. We shed light on their stories—especially mothers like her—because they remind us of something bigger. You’ll see us pushing strollers at events, but not just for human babies. Some are for dog moms too. Every life matters.

Let’s continue raising awareness. Let’s give these mothers the recognition and support they deserve.

Urgent Notice: Adoption Inquiries

Please, only reach out if you are fully committed to adopting. We cannot afford time or resources on home inspections for those who are unsure or might change their minds. Our dogs are desperate for loving homes, and every moment wasted is a heartbreak for us all.

We are not accepting more dogs right now; our current residents need homes—many have been waiting far too long. Imagine being overlooked repeatedly! While our kennels provide care, nothing compares to a loving home. Your unwanted pet is not more important than our dogs, who are not broken or less deserving.

We invest in their care with quality food, vet services, and love. We refuse to place them in unsuitable homes out of desperation. Our commitment is to do what’s best for them, and we will only consider adopters who share that dedication.

If you want to adopt, please ensure your home is suitable and ready for a lifelong commitment. We welcome applications for a family member in a secure property, not as a mere security dog. Do not waste our time if you are not certain. Thank you.

Miracle has successfully undergone her surgery and did wonderfully! The surgeon reported that everything went well, and her uterine infection (pyometra) has been resolved thanks to her spay procedure.

We received about $200 in donations today, which is fantastic! She’s now home resting and recovering. 😊

We still need your support to help cover her medical expenses. You can donate directly to the vet at:
