The Regional Center serves as the public animal shelter for the City of Roanoke, the Counties of Botetourt and Roanoke, and the Town of Vinton, and is an “open intake facility”. The Regional Center primarily handles stray animals picked up by the Animal Control Officers employed by the municipalities, but also accepts strays that are found, and animals owned, by citizens of the municipalities served. Each year the Regional Center receives between 4,000 and 5,000 animals. In accordance with Virginia law, stray animals are held for a minimum of ten (10) days if the animal has any form of identification and five (5) days if the animal has no identification. There is no minimum holding period for animals relinquished by owners, but the Regional Center endeavors to hold animals relinquished by owners for a minimum of two (2) days. While at the Regional Center, animals who have completed their hold time and not been claimed, or have been relinquished by their owners, are evaluated. Animals that are considered to be healthy, treatable and/or rehabilitatable are, subject to the availability of space, transferred to the Roanoke Valley SPCA or another rescue organization for adoption. Animals that are not considered to be healthy, treatable or rehabilitatable, are humanely euthanized once the animal has been held for the required length of time. We'll even let you in on a secret... they're cuter in person! 🙊 Stop by our adoption event TODAY at RCACP (1510 Baldwin Ave NE) from 1-7pm. Fees are waived with an approved application. Just be sure to bring all members of the home (adults, kids, & dogs).

Still available!
Meet Ice! Our extraordinary pup—part Rottweiler, part poodle, and possibly part robot? 🤖 He may be here to hack into our system and steal our hearts... Luckily, we don't mind. 😍

If you're looking for a furry companion with a unique mix of snuggles and sass, Ice is your guy. Adopt him today and prepare for an adventure filled with love, laughter, and possibly a few "malfunctions" (like stealing your snacks!).

Ice is less than 1 year old and about 65lbs. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, flea/tick/HW prevention, and he is microchipped. Ice can be a bit shy with new people, so he would likely not be a great fit for young children, but he is super playful with other dogs.

Him and his friends will be at RCACP this afternoon from 1-7pm for FURSDAY THURSDAY! Adoption fees are $0 with an approved application.

Dear, sweet Clarence 💕

We hope you've had a chance to watch the great RAD race!! You'll be glad to know that 3/4 of the pups were adopted very quickly after filming in August, but our poor Clarence remains. We can only assume it's because he's an older guy. 🙁

At 7 years old, Clarence is well-season and easy going. He is still quite active, but without all the annoying puppy antics (like chewing up your shoes or furniture). He's truly just happy to be with you. He's great with kids, other dogs, and seemed pretty indifferent to a foster kitten he met.

We hope you'll give Clarence a chance- his adoption fee is waived with an approved application! He is neutered, up to date on vaccines and flea/tick/HW treatment, and microchipped.
