Why do we have a 60 day MINIMUM on our c**t starts? Well, would you expect a kindergartener to know calculus?

Learning how to handle being ridden is a complex thing for a horse. There are so many things that factor into the equation that they must learn; how to give to pressure, how to focus, how to not overreact, how to deal with something in their mouth, on their back, and strapped under their belly. How to know a person sitting up there isn’t scary and you aren’t there to hurt them. What your cues are and what they mean.

Their brains and bodies are still developing. They need time to process this information, to build on things step by step. It is a long process built on trust and effective, clear communication. Rushing a horse into these things leads to frustration, trauma, and even injury for the horse.

Does that mean your horse will know everything it needs to know in 60 days? Nope. Like people, every horse learns at their own pace. But give them time and consistency, and you’ve given them a foundation to last them a lifetime.

At Red Barn Riding Co, that’s my job. That’s my passion. Let me help you get a partner for life.🐴
