We had such a great time with our new friends at Lovet Pet Health in Standale!

Our visit included a discussion on emergency stabilization — how to act quickly and effectively in those critical first moments — followed by a hands-on CPR refresher for the team.

It was wonderful to connect, share knowledge, and work together to help pets get the best care possible when every second counts. 🐾

🚨 Nova’s Story! 🚨

Meet sweet Nova, pictured here with our amazing veterinary technician Amy. Nova came to us showing troubling signs — unsteadiness, head bobbing, and a dangerously high temperature of 105°F. At first, her family thought she might have swallowed something odd, but after careful evaluation by Dr. Hudson and vet student Barbara, we suspected a possible toxin.

As her symptoms progressed, we uncovered the cause: Nova had gotten into a bottle of Adderall, ingesting a potentially life-threatening dose. This type of medication can cause severe agitation, high blood pressure, tremors, and even seizures in dogs.

Nova was admitted to our ICU for 24/7 monitoring, fluids, blood pressure checks, and multiple medications to help keep her calm and safe. Our team worked around the clock adjusting treatments, consulting with ASPCA Poison Control, hand-feeding her, and supporting her through every stage of recovery.

We’re thrilled to share that after two intense days in our care, Nova was able to go home to continue resting in a quiet, safe environment. She still had some wobbiness, but her progress was remarkable.

Nova’s story is a powerful reminder:

We’re so proud of Nova for being such a fighter, and we’re grateful to her family for trusting us during such a stressful time. 💙

Future ER heroes in training! 🚑🐾

We had such a great time inspiring the next generation of animal care professionals! Dr. Magolan, Dr. Barscewski, and some of our awesome AESH crew visited the Humane Society’s middle school Vet Camp to share what it’s like to be an emergency veterinarian or veterinary nurse. The campers learned about the fast-paced world of ER medicine and how teamwork, compassion, and quick thinking save lives every day.

We had such a great time inspiring the next generation of animal care professionals! Thank you, Humane Society of West Michigan, for having us!! 🤩

🚨 Kaija’s Story: A Brave Girl on the Mend 💪🐾

Meet Kaija, a sweet and strong pup who recently faced a terrifying accident — she was hit by a car. 💔 Her family rushed her to us after noticing bleeding from her nose and cuts on her face and body.

We carefully removed the trapped air to help her breathe easier and began wound treatment. Kaija stayed with us for monitoring, receiving round-the-clock care, and plenty of love from our team. 💉🩺❤️in her chest cavity — a pneumothorax, or collapsed lung — detected on x-rays.

A few days later, her family noticed Kaija seemed to struggle again with breathing after short walks. They sent us a video, and we immediately welcomed her back for a recheck. Another chest tap helped relieve pressure, and this brave girl was back on the road to recovery.

✨ And while she was here, Kaija officially earned the "Sweetest Girl Award" 🏅 from our staff — for being endlessly gentle, cooperative, and full of tail wags despite everything she’s been through. We all absolutely adored her!

🌼✨ Meet Iris! 💕🐶

Iris came to us not feeling her best — she was shaky, tired, and dealing with vomiting and diarrhea 😔. Her family had just welcomed her home, and it was clear something wasn’t right. Our team quickly jumped into action with fluids, medication, and lots of love.

After a night of supportive care and close monitoring, Iris perked up fast! By bedtime, she was eating, more alert, and those scary tremors had disappeared. By morning? She was back to full wiggle-butt puppy mode! 🐾

We’re so happy to report that Iris is headed home healthy, happy, and probably ready for a nap in her favorite sunny spot. ☀️🐾

Toxicities and tummy troubles can sneak up fast, especially in curious young pups like Iris. That’s why we’re always here 24/7, ready for anything from bellyaches to big emergencies.

✨ Way to go, Iris! You were such a superstar, and we’re sending you off with lots of tail wags and puppy kisses.
