New Jersey Schnauzer Rescue Network Generally the required donations for our senior and special needs dogs are lower, while the adoption fees for our younger and healthier rescues are higher.

Since its creation, NJSRN has had a single mission: Finding permanent, loving homes for Miniature Schnauzers and Schnauzer mixes throughout the northeastern United States.http://www.njsrn.org/ Adoption donations typically range from $50-$600:

Age 10+ years: $50-$150
Age 8 - 9 years: $150-$250
Age 5 - 7 years: $250-$350
Age 3 - 4 years: $350-$450
Age 1 - 2 years: $400-$550
The adoption fee for al

l puppies is $450-$600. In some cases the puppy may be too young to fix, and there will be an additional $100 refundable spay/neuter deposit, which will be returned upon veterinary documentation of altering. We have a special "Senior for Seniors" program, in which the adoption fee is waived for a senior citizen adopting a senior Schnauzer. Occasional dogs may have slightly higher than average adoption fees, depending on circumstances and our expenses. The adoption donations listed above represent the range: the exact fee will vary depending on the dog and our costs. Please feel free to ask about the specific donation required for a dog of interest. All dogs adopted from NJSRN receive the following:

Veterinary examination;
Spay/neuter;
DA2PPv and Rabies vaccinations;
Treatment for worms and intestinal parasites;
Heartworm test;
Dental cleaning and extractions, if needed;
Urinalysis to detect potential urinary tract infections and bladder stones; and
Bloodwork, if necessary. If the dog has any other medical needs, they also will be addressed. We will have the dog microchipped, if possible, and it will be groomed or shaved down if its coat is very matted. The dog will also be evaluated for temperament and a determination of the type of home that is best suited for its needs. The value for all of these services is more than $450!! Adoption fees are donations to New Jersey Schnauzer Rescue Network, not payment for value received, and are based primarily on the age, health, and temperament of a particular dog and our expenses. Please understand, NJSRN is not a shelter, and we are not subsidized - most shelters receive municipal funding, while NJSRN operates entirely on adoption fees and donations. All of our members are volunteers, and none of us receives a salary or payment of any kind. Every dollar we generate through donations or adoption fees goes toward the care of our dogs - primarily for veterinary expenses, plus a small amount for grooming, board, and occasional shelter fees. Volunteers usually pay the costs for transport, fostering, dog food, phone calls, postage, printing, and adoption screening out of their own pockets.

This popped up on my memories today and it's worth repeating -

"Just A Dog"
From time to time, people tell me, “lighten up, it’s just a dog,” or “that’s a lot of money for just a dog.”

They don’t understand the distance travelled, the time spent, or the costs involved for “just a dog.”

Some of my proudest moments have come about with “just a dog.”

Many hours have passed and my only company was “just a dog,” but I did not once feel slighted.

Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by “just a dog,” and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of “just a dog” gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.

If you, too, think it’s “just a dog,” then you probably understand phrases like “just a friend,” “just a sunrise,” or “just a promise.”

“Just a dog” brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy.

“Just a dog” brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person.

Because of “just a dog” I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future.

So for me and folks like me, it’s not “just a dog” but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment.

“Just a dog” brings out what’s good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day.

I hope that someday they can understand that it’s not “just a dog” but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being “just a man” or “just a woman.”

So the next time you hear the phrase “just a dog,” just smile, because they “just don’t understand.”

Meet Smokey! Here is one little fun-loving, affectionate guy. He’s about 7 years old, in great health except for a heart murmur and just the best. He loves everyone he meets – big and small. He definitely needs a fenced yard because, while he’s good on a leash, he loves going where his nose leads him. His house manners are excellent. Poor guy ended up in the shelter, was adopted in May by a nice family and then came to rescue because the landlord decided he didn’t want any more dogs in his building. He does have a bit of separation anxiety from all this moving around but as he gets comfortable in his foster home, that is getting better.

** Update on Stuart **
We are amazed that Stuart hasn't been adopted. He's such a sweet boy and such good company. If you are looking for a mature, settled guy, who loves walks and to cuddle, please contact us!

Meet Stuart! Stuart is a 9 year old, friendly, affectionate, fun-loving guy. He is housetrained, crate trained, and harness trained. He is selective with meeting dogs and likes some, others – not so much. He loves his walks and wakes up every morning as a totally happy, goof ball who will climb right in your lap and cuddle! He is extremely adaptable and quite intelligent. He really enjoys playing with his toys. Stuart prefers big humans to little ones and so an adult only or home with older kids is best. He is on skin care food because he came into rescue with some dry, itchy skin and seems to be doing well on it.

If interested in Stuart, please complete an application at https://www.njsrn.org/adopt/adoption/ or email questions to Deb at [email protected]

**Update on JoJo**
Thank you soooo much to all the kind people who reached out to help with JoJo's training. We received so much response that we started with two people and hopefully, will reach out to more.

JoJo has met Elaine Ruden Parellada twice and it's been a resounding success! He barked a little but then became comfortable with her, took treats gently from her hand and she was even able to eventually pet him (with his permission). This is exciting progress! He could never have done this before his appt at Penn. Tomorrow JoJo will be meeting with Ann Marie Landes-Braddock.

A special thank you to Audrey at Waggin' Train Dog Training. Originally, she volunteered her time and visited JoJo twice. She is the person who suggested taking him to Penn for a behavior assessment. If you need a trainer in the Medford area, please check out Audrey. She is kind, focused and uses positive training techniques. I can't say enough good things about her!

And the most special of thank you's to JoJo's foster, Dawn Eisenhardt. You are at the helm of JoJo's journey!

Hopefully, I'll have more good news soon.

I'm Chula, a 5-6 year old female Schnauzer mix, and I'm looking for a playmate!
I was surrendered by my family to a shelter in NYC because I had medical issues that they didn't recognize or try to fix. I was bleeding and couldn't control my urine. Turns out I wasn't naughty or stubborn - I had a walnut-sized stone in my already small bladder that was painful and causing all sorts of issues plus an infection.
Luckily, I went into a loving foster home who fed me all kinds of good food, kept me on my medications, gave me lots of hugs and kisses, and took me to a lot of vets to get me feeling better. In addition to getting all my vaccines at the shelter, and my bladder stone removed, I was spayed and had a dental cleaning. Although the vet and groomer are not my favorite people, I have to admit I'm looking and feeling great now - and no more bleeding or accidents!!
My foster mom says I need an active home. I love other dogs, older kids and toys, and enjoy running in a yard. I'd also like nice long walks or hikes. My family is important to me, so I'd do best with someone around a lot, plus plenty of time for snuggling and chilling with my people.
I hope I can find my new home soon!

Do you believe in guardian angels? We do and we think this girl has one!

A good samaritan found her as a nameless stray on the streets of Philadelphia and gave her an identity, shelter, food, vet care and a lot of love. The good samaratin couldn’t keep her and turned to NJSRN to provide bladder stone surgery and find a new home for this friendly girl with separation anxiety. Many adoption applications were reviewed until we found the perfect home! A loving family with a work-at-home dad, experience with SA, and fun loving Wheaten Terrier, Reba, that happily shares her bed with her new Mini Schnauzer sister, Tilly. And Tilly happily shares her WIL adoption blanket with her new best friend.

Here’s to many years of canine (and human)playing and snoozing together!

4 month old "Boy Boy", now Archie, was found in a box by a field and taken in by a Good Samaritan. That was his start in life. NJSRN found him a wonderful home and he just had his first birthday with his "brother".

These are the wins we like to celebrate with our rescue family. Look at those smiles! 🥰

Rescue is tough. Many of the dogs come into our organization in rough shape. People are not always the most loving. We shed a lot of tears over these little souls. But many times, thanks to our wonderful adopters, we find pure joy. Here's our latest.

Stevie (11 yrs old) came into rescue from the NYC shelter as a stray. His history was a mystery and he was a sad, confused, beaten down little boy. An adopter applied specifically for him. She saw his spark. She felt the connection.

This week she sent us his birthday celebration. We don't know his actual birthday but Donna decided it would be his "gotcha" day. We cried happy tears over these pictures. It's so obvious that Stevie knows he's loved. Thank you Donna for your love and keeping in touch with us!

Happy Birthday Stevie! So glad you are enjoying your life! ❤️
