Are you hoping for a dog with true impulse control?
Impulse control isn’t something dogs are born with, it’s built. Just like a muscle, it needs consistent practice to grow stronger. And the sooner you start, the better!
Too often, I see owners go through the motions: asking for a quick sit before meals or a split-second pause at the crate door. But the dog’s mind? Still buzzing. And that kind of practice isn’t going to get you where you want to go. It’s actually reinforcing an anticipatory, wound-up mind.
What if you asked for more?
More calm.
More patience.
More regulation.
Because it’s not just about waiting, it’s about HOW they wait.
When they’re puppies, raise the bar:
Wait a little longer.
Look for true stillness.
Get eye contact.
Hold out for that settled, thoughtful energy…not a dog hanging on by a thread.
Be clear, be consistent, and expect more of the right kind of effort. That’s what makes it stick! 🧠
