November is Pet Cancer Awareness Month
Just like diabetes, cancer is another disease that deeply affects our pets—and our hearts. I’ve seen more cases of pet cancer over the years, especially GI lymphoma in cats. Sadly, we’ve lost a few of our own beloved pets to cancer and I have cared for others living with it, including those who’ve had to adapt after losing a limb.
While a cancer diagnosis is never easy, early detection can make a difference. If you notice any new lumps, bumps, or changes in your pet’s behavior, it’s always best to have your veterinarian take a look.
Whether you’re navigating this journey now or may face it in the future, take time to truly savor every moment with your pets. Each day with them is a gift.

Why do I need to have a key on file if you enter through the garage?
That’s a great question — and one I get often! While I’m happy to enter your home using the garage keypad, it’s always important to have a backup plan in place.
Anything can happen while you’re away — the keypad battery could die, the power could go out, or the garage might just decide not to cooperate. If that happens and there’s no other way in, I wouldn’t be able to care for your pets.
Having a key on file ensures I can always access your home safely and provide uninterrupted care for your pets, no matter what. I once even had a key break in the lock (it happens!), but thankfully, that client had a spare — so their cats never missed a visit.
Your pet’s well-being and your peace of mind are always my top priorities. 🐾❤️

November is Pet Diabetes Month ❤️
Diabetic pets hold a special place in my heart. Over the years, I’ve cared for many diabetic cats—and our beloved senior dog, Sprinkles, was diabetic for the last two and a half years of her life.
Know the signs and symptoms:
🐾 Increased thirst and urination
🐾 Normal or increased appetite with weight loss
🐾 Most common in senior pets (age 10+)
🐾 Cataracts or cloudy eyes (especially in dogs)
Caring for a diabetic pet can feel overwhelming at first, but with patience and consistency, it becomes a rewarding routine. The hardest part for me was sorting through all the misinformation out there. Thankfully, I found trusted resources that helped me give Sprinkles—and other diabetic pets under my care—the best life possible.
If you’re caring for a diabetic pet and need guidance or support, you’re not alone. Visit my blog to learn more or reach out—I’m here to help.
Polly loves our weekday walks so much she just can’t contain her excitement! It’s the best greeting to walk into — full of tail wags and happy energy. 💕
📷 Big thanks to her mom for capturing this sweet moment!
🐾 Why an Initial Consultation & Behavioral Assessment Matters 🐾
With so many on-demand pet care apps available, it’s easy to assume booking professional care works the same way — quick and instant. But here at Kat and Dogs Ohio, I take a more personal approach.
Before your first service, new clients go through a simple onboarding process:
1️⃣ Activate your account and complete your personal and pet profiles.
2️⃣ Schedule your Initial Consultation & Behavioral Assessment.
This in-home visit gives us the chance to meet face-to-face, discuss your pet’s routines, and ensure everyone feels comfortable and confident. It’s also a valuable opportunity for your cats to meet me in their own space — helping reduce stress and minimize surprises once services begin.
I know this process might take a little more time, but it’s designed with your pet’s safety, comfort, and happiness in mind. Not every pet professional is the right fit for every family — and that’s okay! This step helps us make sure we’re the perfect match.
So if you’re planning your next trip, keep this in mind — we’ll need to schedule your consultation before your first booking.
🐾 Planning a trip and need reliable cat care? I’d love to help! 🐾
To ensure every pet gets safe, stress-free care, here are a few things to know before becoming a client:
✨ Service Area: Eastlake, Wickliffe, Willowick, Willoughby Hills, and Willoughby, OH.
✨ Services Offered: Cat sitting, weekday dog walks, pocket pet care, and basic grooming.
✨ New Clients: Please reach out in advance. An initial consultation and behavioral assessment must be scheduled and completed at least 7 days before your first service. This gives us time to set up your account and meet so your cats feel comfortable right from the start.
As a proud cat mom to a senior myself, this month holds a special place in my heart. Many of the pets I care for are senior cats, so it always catches me by surprise when I meet a new client with a pet under the age of 10.
Senior pets require a different kind of care — one that’s patient, gentle, and mindful of their changing needs. As our pets age, health conditions like arthritis, kidney disease, or diabetes can begin to surface. Supporting them through these changes while keeping them happy, comfortable, and loved for as long as possible is always my goal.
I truly believe that good quality care is the best care—especially in their golden years. As much as we wish they could stay with us forever, what matters most is giving them the best life possible every single day.
I would love to see your senior pets. Post a picture in the comments!

I loved my daily visits with Tilly while her mom was away. Here’s what she shared about her experience:
“I had the pleasure of working with Kat when I was recently on vacation. She cared for my cat, Tilly, for 3 days and she was reliable, attentive, and very caring toward her.
Kat demonstrated professionalism and a caring attitude from the beginning. During the initial meet and greet, Kat took the time to learn about Tilly’s habits, dietary needs, and quirks. Tilly is wary of strangers but went to Kat right away. Kat consistently sent me updates and photos, and her website is wonderful for pictures and communication. I am so relieved to have met Kat and know that I can trust her with my cat.”
Thank you, Becky, for sharing your thoughtful review! 💕

Pet parents, It’s so important that you’re honest about your pet’s health, behavior, and past experiences. I don’t know your pets like you do and I can’t help if I don’t have accurate information on each pet’s profile.
✍️If you are using the services of a professional pet-sitting or dog-walking business, your pet-care provider will complete a pet profile sheet for your pet(s) to ensure they have a complete picture of your pet’s behavior and health.
This ensures they can provide top-notch care but also helps keep your pet—and the pet sitter—safe.
📍So it’s important to be honest. If your pet has any physical conditions or issues, has ever bitten or scratched anyone, or has had difficulties with past pet-care providers, share this information with your pet sitter. Withholding information can put both your pet and the pet sitter at risk.
We know you want the best care for your pet—and that can only happen if you are honest about your pet’s health and behavior and transparent about any concerns.

Why Kat and Dogs Ohio?
Did you know the pet sitting industry is currently unregulated? That means anyone can call themselves a pet sitter — but not everyone meets the same professional standards.
That’s why I’m proud to be part of Pet Sitters International (PSI), the leading educational organization for professional pet sitters and dog walkers. PSI recently released their Global Standards for Professional Pet Sitters and Dog Walkers — a huge step forward in defining what quality, reliable pet care should look like.
While these standards aren’t law (yet!), they’re helping raise the bar across the industry — and I’m proud to already follow the majority of these best practices while continuing to learn and grow as a Certified Professional Pet Sitter (CPPS) and PSI member.
My commitment is to provide the very best for both pets and their people. 🐾
