Hey y'all! I hope everyone has had a good Passover/Easter/Begining of spring!
I will be taking a short vacation May 7-14th and then I'll be home for a bit.
May 20th my summer semester starts (y'all please pray for me, we're gonna be outside on a farm in the summer heat 😭🫠) and my schedule changes. The next 3 semesters are going to be extra rough because I have to do externships at vet practices. While I'm super excited for the opportunity for real hands on learning it is going to take away another day off I had. I will be in class (or on the farm) all day Tuesday and Thursdays, working my externship all day Mondays, and doing nail trims fri-sun. I'm gonna be exhausted but it is so worth it and I can't wait to get real life experience on a farm! 🐎 🐄 🐮 🐖 🐷 🐐 🐏
But the biggest downfall to this crazy new schedule means I won't be able to see my weekday clients as often. Scheduling is going to be rough but I promise I will still take care of your fur babies! My schedulers Samantha and Samantha (I call them "My Sam's" ) are going to be working extra hard to make sure everyone gets taken care of and scheduled as fairly and frequently as possible.
So basically, please give them a little extra grace as they try to accommodate everyone and my crazy schedule. I promise they are doing their best. But also, if you feel like you got missed for the month or need a sooner appointment please, please send us a text! It will never hurt our feelings if you text in and say "hey I need an appt or got forgotten or lost in the cracks" or even just a simple howdy will remind us to check your appointments. My Sam's are juggling my chaotic schedule and over 300 clients! Yes, 300+ clients! They do an amazing job and I'm so thankful for them. And I am so incredibly thankful for each of you! You all have made this happen! I am able to do this full time because of y'all! I can't imagine doing anything else! Just in case you were worried, even after school I am gonna keep doing nail trims! So long as my body will let me do it, I will continue to do it! I love nail trims and I love all my peeps and pets!

Omg y'all I have a new obsession! I found glow in the dark cat nail caps! We wanted green for St. Patty's day so we did one cat with the green glow in the dark and the other in a sparkly dark green. They turned out amazing! I love them! 🤩

So most of you know my office assistant and scheduler Samantha and know how wonderful she is at her job. But not all of you know that she is a wonderful person! I have been having a very difficult week with 1 of my own cats passing away, my mom getting very sick with the flu, 2 midterms, and 4, 12 hour days in a row. She knows how stressed I've been, so while I was out working today she dropped off some cercie's at my house for me to discover when I got home. It was incredibly thoughtful and truly made my day! Thank you Samantha Wininger !

*Note the card is signed "your favorite stalker". I jokingly call her my favorite stalker because as I'm working my way through my schedule she follows along to where I am and which client I'm seeing. That way she can make any updates in real time if I have any issues. She is the best (and hopefully only) stalker I have!

I was just telling a client about this! Cats are so cool!

Did you know cats have a second "nose"? 🐾👃

It’s called the Jacobson's organ (or vomeronasal organ, if you want to sound fancy), and it’s located on the roof of their mouth. Cats use it to "smell" things in a whole different way—kind of like a built-in chemical detector! When your kitty pauses to open their mouth slightly after sniffing something (called the Flehmen response), they’re analyzing pheromones and other scents.

Basically, your cat’s out here being a tiny scientist, sniffing for secrets in the air. 🔬😺

What is H5N1?
H5N1, commonly known as avian influenza A or bird flu, is a highly pathogenic strain of influenza virus that primarily affects birds, but cases have recently been reported in wildlife, cattle, cats, and humans.

What do we know about the latest outbreak?
Recently H5N1 influenza cases have been reported in cats that have consumed contaminated commercial raw food diets, unpasteurized milk, or had contact with wild birds and cattle.

Precautions:
Consider discontinuing your pet’s raw diet. Even if their raw food is human grade, frozen, or freeze dried, this does not prevent the potential spread of pathogenic bacteria, parasites, or H5N1 that may be present in the food. Consider cooking your pet’s raw food and/or consulting your veterinarian about diet change.
Limit your pet’s access to wild birds that may be carrying the virus and avoid giving them raw milk.

What are the symptoms to watch out for in our pets?
Clinical signs in pets may include the following:
• Loss of appetite
• Lethargy
• Fever
• Neurologic signs (ataxia, circling, tremors, seizures, sudden blindness)
• Copious oculonasal discharge
• Difficulty breathing
We recommend seeking veterinary care if your pet shows any of these signs. If they are having any life-threatening symptoms (neurologic signs, seizures, difficulty breathing, or collapse) seek veterinary care immediately.

Can this cause illness in humans?
Yes, H5N1 can cause illness in humans. Current human infections have been linked to contact with infected cattle and wild birds. There is no current evidence of human to human transmission.

What is being done?
The CDC, FDA and USDA are closely monitoring cases as they develop. One voluntary product recall has been issued for contaminated raw food diets for cats & dogs. We are continuing to monitor this emerging virus.
