Feeling furious and heartbroken today…

3 horses left standing in this pen…1 morgan cross that will be run back through auction and 2 (slaugter risk) drafts.

Drafts are often the last to find homes, and frequently are shipped or run back through auction. They often have chronic or terminal conditions and they are expensive to care for…to feed, to treat, to maintain. Not many peple can or will take their cases.

We have taken many horses from here and they have all been in horrific condition. Bess, Mike, Norman, Henry were a few.

Below is a representation of what we often see. Babies that can’t be used so they are tossed, scared, in pain, and haven’t even begun to live.

Seniors, tired, worn out, no longer able to be bred or worked so they are deemed worthless.

** do not come at me with any bu****it about kill pens…a life to be saved is a life to be saved. These horses did not ask to be in this position and have no voice. I do not care about the dealers, buyers, or pens. I care about the horses. If you do, don’t pull from one…it’s that simple.

Quinny is holding her own and in less than 48 hrs she has gone from loving me to hating me.

Banamine is the devil, how dare I halter her and attempt to rewrap her legs, and she would prefer she didn’t have to see my face at all in the near future.

Betsy had to wrangle her this morning just to get her meds in her. Gotta love the fight in her. 🙄🤣

The vet was just out to see Quin. He thinks that she either dislocated her hip or tore the tendons that hold it in place.

If you recall, Quin arrived from a kill pen at 2.5yo with 2 breaks in her left pelvis. They were already healed and there was nothing we could do but let her live and manage her symptoms.

She has spent the last 3 years compensating on her right side. This year her legs started to show signs of decompemsation but she was still happy, running, playing, eating, drinking, and being a great mom to our orphans.

We discussed it length today and he truly felt we should give her week to see if there was any improvement. The hope is if the area scars over it may be able to support her the way it had. Let me be clear other than pain control, wrapping, ice, there is no treatment.

As you know I will not let any horse suffer. She is eating drinking, getting up and down and doesn’t seem like she’s willing to quit.

If she makes no improvement after a week OR she gets worse, I will make the choice for her. She’s had an amazing 3 yrs here and that’s more than I thought she would ever get.

Everyone loves her and she loves everyone. This place is her home and we are her family. Kathy and Megan stayed until dark night last night. Cory and Mary were here first thing and Betsy came for the vet visit so somebody could make a rational decision. Dr Jaynes was off but took every text and phone call last night and talked to me for 45 min this morning. And of course the prayers you all sent.

This family, this community we have created has brought so much love and life to these neglected, discarded horses. I am so proud of you all and so very grateful.

To the person/people who have created this hell we’re living in right now…look long and hard at these pictures. We give hope, love, peace, and kindness to these tossed away souls. Souls that may never have had that chance. I hope you are proud of yourself for shutting down a haven they so desperately need. All for 0.36 acres of already used land, and lack of knowledge.

Struggling today…

If you can help a creature in need please do. Big or small there are so many need help. Share a post, donate to a cause, volunteer at a shelter, help a stray, help a turtle cross a road…anything 🙏🏼

It’s killing me to be at a standstill with this nonsense. It feels like a piece of my soul is missng. Like my purpose was ripped away.

I look at our herd and while I’m so thankful they are safe, it’s heartbreaking to think of the animals out there that have lost a desperately needed resource for safety.

I have no updates as of today. The town has rescheduled their July meeting until August so at best we have another 5 weeks of waiting. I am looking into all every and all options for us. We will NOT stop fighting for these lives. I promise you.

**Richard-saved from the auction floor at only a few days old for $8.46. Legs contracted and so helpless. He is now 2.5 months old, healthy, loving, kind, and playful. We are blessed to play part in his story ❤️

I came across this guy on facebook. These are exactly the types of horses that end up in the pipeline. Free, “sweet”, posted online. Even well meaning owners are tricked and lied to.

We can’t help him or others like him which is INFURIATING!

I pray this sweet guy ends up in a loving forever home that can meet his needs.

If anyone has a soft place for him to land I urge you to reach out. Blind horses are incredible and capable of so much ❤️

Things feel bad for me and then I look at what Texas is going through and I am so thankful that my family, herd, and community are safe.

Our thoughts and prayers are with every person and creature affected by this devastation.

As of today I don’t have much news. The state is asking that the town take back over. 1 month and we’re still just sitting here waiting, watching horses suffer, knowing we cant help 💔

I am exhausted and just wishing someone saw how crucial this decision is to us continuing our rescue mission.

Thank you to everyone who has offered their land, barns and time.

Please understand that this could potentially cost (me personally) $40-45k by the time this is over. More if I need a lawyer. All of the extra money I make with my second job offsets the cost of the rescue that we don’t fundraise.

I would love to use foster homes but I’m worried that financially I cannot support that option at this time.
