It’s been another wonderful week y, and we’re thrilled to share that our dogs and cats were adopted into loving homes! Each one now has a second chance at a happy life filled with love, comfort, and care. 🐶🐱

A heartfelt thank-you to all the amazing adopters who made room in their hearts and homes. You’ve changed lives, and we couldn’t be more grateful. 💕

✨ Adoption fees for adult dogs and cats are donation based, so you can give what you’re able to.
🐾 Puppies and kittens are back to regular adoption fees to help cover their extra care and medical needs.

🐾 Did You Know? 🐾

We have a special Feral Cat Sanctuary, created just for the feral cats in our care. It's not open to the public, but it’s a peaceful, safe place where these cats can roam freely and live out the rest of their lives in comfort. Thanks to the generosity of Art O'Brien, we were able to build this unique sanctuary for them. As well as donors for our Feral Cat Sanctuary Expansion.

What we haven’t shared before is the true cost of caring for these cats.

💰It costs $1,970 each year to care for one feral cat. This includes food, vaccines, medication, and the time our dedicated staff spends making sure they’re healthy and comfortable.

With over 70 cats 🐱 currently in our sanctuary, the yearly cost adds up to more than $137,900 a year. And that doesn’t include maintenance like repairs, weeding, pruning, or keeping the water systems running.

This sanctuary means everything to our ferals, and that's why we are more than willing to bear the cost. Many of them can’t adapt to homes or survive safely outdoors. This sanctuary is their forever home, and your support makes it possible.

Every donation goes directly to their care. No amount is too small. When you give, you help us keep these cats safe, healthy, and loved.

🐾 Holiday Hours Alert! 🐾

All of our facilities will be closed on Monday, September 1st, in honor of Labor Day.

We'll be open for regular business hours on Tuesday, September 2nd.

Did you know?

As a no-kill shelter, we promise every animal love, care, and safety no matter how long it takes to find their forever family. But some of our residents wait months, even years, before adoption, and the cost of their care adds up quickly.

🐾 Take Zelda, for example. She has been with us for over a year. While she is a healthy, happy pup, her stay has already cost more than $8,700. That covers nutritious meals, enrichment activities, grooming, and anti-anxiety medication to help her cope with shelter life.

And Zelda is not alone:
💛 Nala, age 9, has been here 196 days and needs daily supplements and antidepressants.
🤍 Carmen, a Chihuahua mix, has waited 225 days while receiving treatment for recurring eye infections.
🐱 Tobias and Tiberius, two Persians, have been with us for a record 495 days.

Caring for just these five amazing animals has cost over $50,000 in one year.

🦷🐾 Did you know that dental care for our adoptable pets can cost us thousands of dollars each year? 🐶🐱💖

For so many of the dogs and cats who come into our care, dental problems are some of the most painful and overlooked issues they face. Pets arrive with broken or cracked teeth, severe tartar buildup, rotting gums, and even dangerous abscesses that can spread infection throughout their bodies. These conditions are not only uncomfortable but also life-threatening if left untreated. Dental disease can lead to weight loss, malnutrition, and even damage to vital organs such as the heart, kidneys, and liver. 💔

A single veterinary dental procedure can cost on average $650, depending on how severe the case is and whether extractions or advanced treatments are needed. Multiply that by the number of pets we care for each year, and the expenses quickly add up to thousands of dollars. Despite the cost, we believe every animal deserves relief from pain and the chance to live a healthy life. That is why we make sure each pet gets the dental treatment they need, whether it is a routine cleaning, multiple extractions, or surgery for a serious infection.

Providing dental care is not just about clean teeth. It relieves constant pain, allows pets to eat comfortably, and lets them enjoy playtime and cuddles again. After treatment, dogs can chew their toys with ease, and cats can return to being affectionate and playful.

This is why your support matters so much. Through our Did You Know? campaign, your donations directly fund these critical dental procedures. Every contribution helps cover the costs of exams, x-rays, cleanings, extractions, and medications that restore comfort and health. Did you know we have 40 dedicated employees who care for our adoptable pets every single day? 🐶🐱💖

At Valley Animal Center, we’re a team focused on the well-being of the dogs and cats waiting for their forever homes, including our doctors, RVTs, clinic, and shelter staff. Along with our wonderful volunteers, we are able to enrich their days with fun activities, keep their kennels clean, wash loads and loads of laundry, and provide crucial medical care. Our staff works tirelessly to ensure each pet receives the love and attention they deserve.

This means consistent, high-quality care every single day because every dog and cat deserves nothing less. Yes, it also means higher operating costs, but we believe it’s worth every penny. The bonds our staff creates with each pet are priceless. These are the humans who ensure the dogs and cats get enough playtime, enrichment, and TLC to help them thrive while they wait for their forever families.

We’re overjoyed to share the incredible stories of pups who finally found their perfect match. Whether it was love at first sight or a bond that took patience and trust, every adoption this week reminded us why we do what we do.
However, there are still so many dogs and cats waiting for someone to take a chance on them.

Mia is a sweet, calm, and absolutely adorable 6-year-old Chihuahua mix who is just waiting for her forever home. If you're looking for the perfect lap dog to share cozy moments with, Mia might just be your new best friend! 🐶💕

She loves nothing more than curling up for a good nap and giving her humans all the snuggles. Mia thrives in peaceful environments, so she’d be happiest in a quieter home. Maybe without young children.

While she’s dog-friendly and great with cats (though we haven't officially cat-tested her yet), she’s ready to find a loving home where she can relax, play, and feel safe. 🏡❤️
