Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA) Friends of Homeless Animals is a non-profit, no-kill shelter for homeless dogs & cats, located in Northern VA

Located in Northern Virginia, Friends of Homeless Animals has been serving the Washington metropolitan area since 1973. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) no-kill shelter dedicated to saving abandoned and abused dogs and cats. We provide rescue, medical care, rehabilitation, and adoption services in the Northern Virginia and Washington, DC metropolitan areas.

Congratulations to the great group of dogs and cat who were adopted between June 6 and June 13: Fleas Witherspoon, Jasmine, Kodak, Lisa Vanderpup, and Rocky Road. Best wishes to all for a happy life with your new families! Thank you so much to our awesome staff and volunteers who work so hard every week to get our animals into forever homes.

Hello, I’m Oscar — a charming Redbone Coonhound with a nose that leads the way on long walks and a love for sunny, relaxing afternoons. At 15 yrs old, I am the oldest animal at FOHA. I know basic commands and take treats like a champ. I’m a big fan of car rides and low-key living. I do best in an adult-only home with an experienced owner who understands my protective nature. I can be very protective of my food, toys, and anything I consider mine, so caution is needed when entering my space. But when I’m ready, I’m full of smiles and even have a special “Oscar dance” to charm you for treats! If you’re looking for a loyal companion to chill with on the back porch and soak up the sun, I’m your guy.

** NEW FACES ON THE WEBSITE **

One of the benefits of following our page is that YOU get to be the first to know when new animals are added to the website. We recently added more dogs and kittens, including: Chandler, Dorothy, Dottie Minerva, Joey, and Monica. (website links in captions)

You can see all of our adoptable animals on our website. If you see one that might be a good fit for your family, submit an application (no obligation) or stop by the shelter between noon and 5pm on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. If you'd like to meet an animal in foster, please submit an application so we can arrange a meeting.

FOHA is a 501c3 rescue and all dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and on preventatives. Most of our animals are pulled from rural shelters to help them free up space, so every animal adopted or fostered opens a spot to save one more!

🐱 Just a reminder that our Pets of the Week, Mickey and Jagger, are still waiting to meet you! 🐶

🎉 Mickey is a chill and curious boy who loves humans. He's a huge fan of food and relishes every bite in spite of not having teeth! He's happy to have his head scratched and has great litter box manners.

🌟 Jagger is an adventurous and playful boy looking for a place to call home. He loves belly rubs and cuddling and is good with kids! He's working on his leash manners but knows some commands and his name.

Meet Valentino, a 2-year-old, 47lb male Terrier mix! He’s a sweet and shy boy who can’t wait to find his forever home. He can be reserved when he first meets people, but once he warms up, he’s affectionate and playful. He is dog -selective; he gets along wells with calm dogs and will definitely need a careful introduction to any potential canine siblings. He would do best in a quiet, adults-only home with a patient and experienced adopter who is willing to take the time to gain Valentino’s trust. Hey there, I’m Mickey, the Cat of the Week! I may have come from a house with 48 other cats, but I’ve managed to stay the chillest, sweetest guy in the room. Despite the chaos of my past, I’ve got a laid-back attitude and a gentle heart that shines through every day. You’ll find me first in line at mealtime, I may not have any teeth, but that doesn’t stop me one bit from enjoying every bite of food and flashing my adorable toothless grin!
