Meet Bonnie & Clyde.

They are Oakley/Gunther pups born in April of 2021. There was a death in their immediate family and we are unsure at this time if the remaining parent will be able to maintain the home with the dogs. In the meantime, they are home with us and getting used to a new routine. I swear even after 4 years, they remember their first momma (me!), the house, and the dogs that were here when they were pups.

These 2 would be rehomed as a bonded pair (brother and sister). They are large griffs that have been raised as pets. Both parents are INCREDIBLE hunters, I am sure they would pick it up with the right training. They are sweet, easy and quiet for the most part. The problem is that they need to go together.

We are in NO RUSH to have them leave but if you have been wanting a couple of griffs and want an older pair, these 2 would be perfect.

Just putting out some feelers, we MAY have a couple of adult griffs available for rehoming. If there are any families looking for two older Oakley x Gunther pups, just reach out and we can discuss. I just wanted to gauge interest should we need to go that route.

Did you know that AKC is now making the AKC Puppy STAR certificate a "real" title?? Take your puppy to a 6 week Puppy Kindergarten, earn the certificate and it can be listed on your dog's Registered Name as an official title. And once you have completed the Puppy STAR title, you are prepared to learn the AKC Canine Good Citizen title.

Puppies can be up to 1 year old to be enrolled for this program!

Oakley's boy Glarus earned a Prize 1 at his NAVHDA test recently! Congrats team! Glarus is the second pup out of the second Gunther x Oakley litter to test.

Oakley had a very wierd season and we opted to not breed her this time around. We only want to breed when we are sure that our Momma's can handle the litter 100%. We may consider breeding her later in 2024 if she cycles normally again.

For those of you waiting on news about Oakley's upcoming litter, she has STILL not come into season. Our plans remain the same, so as soon as she's ready, we'll breed!

We have an exciting last litter planned with Oakley ~ URO2 Whiskeytown Get Your Gun at Canyon RA JH

She'll be bred to River ~ GCH CH WHISKEYTOWN'S OLD MAN RIVER CGC JH

Both dogs have all their required clearances. We are currently taking applications.

Breeding should take place in the next 30-45 days and pups would be due in February, going home in April.

Oakley has produced hunting and show dogs. We are excited to be pairing up these 2 Whiskeytown dogs. I expect to see amazing temperaments and drive!

We are taking names for our last litter out of Oakley. We plan to breed this winter with pups ready to go in the Spring. Past litters have product great hunters, NAVHDA prize winners, AKC Junior Hunters and a show champion.

Who we are...

Canyon Labradors and Griffs are located in northern Colorado Springs. www.canyonlabs.net for more information. Please click on Oakley’s page (under Girls) for litter information!

While we are new working with Griffs, we have been involved with purebred dogs (Labradors) since 2001. We’ve shown and competed with the labs over the years, earning obedience, rally and hunting certificates, as well as having a couple of show champions. We’ve also bred a number of Labrador litters. I am a member of our parent club, the local breed club and the local kennel club. I strive to make sure we are breeding our Labradors responsibly and ethically with a mind to preserving the breed.

With that in mind, I plan to bring that experience and dedication as we go forward with our Griffs. We got our first griff in 2015, however, tragically lost her in 2017 when we found out she had a drug-resistant form of hereditary Idiopathic Epilepsy. After trying to mediate her illness for 9 months, we had to let her go. Currently there is no health testing available for epilepsy.

Despite the unfortunate experience, I fell in love with the breed and waited almost a year to bring our new griff into our home. Oakley has been a great addition to our family. While not hunters ourselves, we do try to make sure we foster the natural instinct that griffs are known for. We work her in various AKC, UKC, and NAVHDA events and plan on breeding her in early 2021.
