By definition, a koi dealer is someone in the “business” of selling koi fish. As a nonprofit animal rescue, our “mission” is to find suitable new forever homes for the living creatures entrusted to our care. Our special koi adoption events are intended to help us accomplish this mission. For this reason, an approved koi adoption request is required for all private hobbyists wishing to attend our events.

Our dedicated team of volunteers commonly travels hundreds of miles at their own expense to complete large koi rescues throughout CA, NV, and AZ. After finishing quarantine, many of these rescued koi fish are then made available to approved private hobbyists through adoptions made at these special hosted events. The minimal rehoming fees charged for adoptions made at these events help to offset some of our operating costs for the various free services we provide.

As a registered animal rescue, our sole mission is to find suitable new forever homes for the beautiful living jewels entrusted to our care. In addition to large koi fish rescues, we also consistently receive a very high volume of turtle rescue requests. Unfortunately, we have been unable to accommodate all these requests due to a lack of resources and insufficient room available in our dedicated turtle pond habitat.

Our dedicated turtle pond habitat is intended to serve as a temporary home for our rescued turtles while they await permanent placement through adoption. Due to extremely high demand for turtle rescues, in October 2023 we invested significant resources to completely rebuild our dedicated turtle pond habitat. This upgrade allows us to safely care for significantly more turtles awaiting new forever homes.

Unfortunately, the demand for turtle rescues will continue to far exceed our capacity. Therefore, effective January 1, 2024 a charitable donation of $20 USD per turtle will be required for all turtle rescues/surrenders. This donation will help to offset some of our costs for caring for your turtle(s) while we diligently work to find them suitable new forever homes…

Over nearly two decades our dedicated team of volunteers has completed literally hundreds of large koi fish rescues located throughout CA, NV, and AZ. After finishing quarantine, these living jewels are placed into properly vetted new forever homes.

Many of our rescued koi are placed into large proper koi ponds constructed by our supporting pond builders. Since 2020 our volunteers have also hosted special koi adoption events, making some of our rescued koi available direct to approved private hobbyists for the very first time.

Our koi adoption events are scheduled approximately once every 4-6 weeks. A confirmed appointment is required, and only private hobbyists with an approved koi adoption request are eligible to attend. Valued return customers who have previously adopted koi during our events are also eligible to schedule special private koi adoption appointments.

Many beautiful large koi and butterfly koi will be made available for immediate adoption to approved private hobbyists during this event for only $50 each or adopt three for only $100! High quality Japanese koi, jumbo koi, and jumbo butterfly koi also well below wholesale!

An approved koi adoption request is required to help ensure all koi are placed into suitable ponds only. This special event is intended for private hobbyists only. Absolutely no dealers or resellers. Rehoming fees set well below wholesale. Extremely limited slots available.

It is VERY common for a hobbyist to purchase a new koi fish from a pet shop or koi dealer, take the fish home then immediately add it to their pond only to watch it die a few short weeks later. Why does this scenario get repeated so often? All your existing fish still inhabiting the same pond seem just fine. So did you purchase a sick fish? Or worse, did the pet store or your koi dealer knowingly sell you a sick fish?

Not likely. While illness is always a possibility, in our experience most koi losses actually result from three factors which conspire together to create the perfect storm for new koi additions. These three deadly factors include (1) significantly increased koi stress levels, (2) common koi parasites, and (3) resulting bacterial infections. In reality, if these new fish were still with your dealer rather than in your pond they would likely still be alive today.

When it comes to koi keeping, knowledge is power. Having completed hundreds of large koi rescues throughout CA, NV and AZ, we have published a Koi Knowledge resource page to help ensure hobbyists are able to maintain optimal koi health for new fish added to their ponds regardless of source.

While there are several steps you can take to help maintain optimal koi fish health, in the end koi fish are still living creatures. Sometimes even if you follow the strictest of quarantine procedures and provide exceptional water quality, koi can still become ill and koi losses can still occur. Why? Because in the end koi fish are not household appliances, and therefore they do not come with a factory warranty.

This fact remains true whether you spend thousands of dollars to purchase high quality Japanese koi from a reputable koi dealer or if you are given a small koi fish as a gift from one of your trusted friends. While all koi losses hurt, these losses also tend to feel exponentially worse the higher the price paid. So if you’ve already had this experience, then perhaps koi adoption might be a good fit for you.

The koi world is very small. If you are looking to purchase high quality Japanese koi fish we would be extremely happy to refer you to several highly reputable koi dealers located within Southern California that not only support us, but whom we also consider to be close personal friends. We are NOT koi dealers ourselves, nor are we their competitors in any way. We are a nonprofit animal rescue specializing in large koi fish and other common pond pets.

The sole purpose of our special hosted koi adoption events is to help find suitable new forever homes for the beautiful living jewels entrusted to our care. While rehoming fees charged at these events are a tiny fraction of typical koi dealer wholesale cost, these minimal fees do help to offset some of our operational costs for the various free services we provide. We have successfully re-homed hundreds of large koi fish through adoptions made at these events.

With new pond construction now fully recovered from COVID, our special hosted koi adoption events will only continue into the future if sufficient interest exists among private hobbyists. Our koi adoption request process is intended to help ensure our rescued koi fish are placed into suitable ponds only while also helping to set realistic expectations for hobbyists wishing to attend one of our hosted events for the first time.
