You probably have seen them in the grocery store, in a school, in a hospital or on the street. You might have seen fully trained service dogs assisting their owners by guiding them through stores, crossing a road or alerting of an alarm.

In honor of International Assistance Dog Week, let's take this time to celebrate all the hard work assistance dogs put in to help people with disabilities to make a big difference in their everyday lives such as guide dogs, hearing dogs, service dogs and therapy dogs.

Did you know that it can take up to 2 to 3 years of training before a dog is ready to match with a person with needing their services?

Assistance dogs change lives, and they deserve all the celebration and support we can give.

Heat stroke happens very fast and can be fatal. Please take extra precautions with this heat!

🚨 URGENT: Heatstroke Alert from Our Emergency Team 🚨

This week, our emergency and critical care department treated several heartbreaking cases of fatal heatstroke in dogs. What shocked us most? The majority of these cases happened INDOORS, not outside or in hot cars.

Heatstroke doesn't just happen outdoors. It can happen right in your home.
🏠 If you don't have AC or it's not working:
Contact local cooling centers to ask if pets are welcome
Check with libraries about their pet policies
Reach out to friends or family with AC

❄️ If you do have AC:
LEAVE IT RUNNING when you leave home
Your pet's life depends on it

⚠️ Remember: Heatstroke happens FAST and can be fatal before you can get help. Prevention is everything.

Don't wait until it's too late. Your furry family member is counting on you to keep them safe during these dangerous heat waves.
