Hey everybody! We work with our closest shelter whenever we can....Jasper Animal Shelter....it's another county, but it's close and those animal control officers do their best for their dogs to keep from euthanizing for space! Their adoption fee is $130 for fully vetted dogs. So if you see one you like....and you are local...swing by!
For those of you in the Maritimes...if you see a dog you want, we will go get it for you, bring it here and hold til transport. It will be "tagged" by Barking Mad, brought here and all health exams performed, border fees paid, and transported to the Maritimes as a BMAR dog. We of course will stand behind it with our 100% lifetime guarantee. Our adoption fees are $625. That is what is COSTS us to do the exams, pay broker fees, custom fees, handler/transport fees, proper supplies & nutrition on the way up. BUT CJ believes in the Jasper shelter so much...she will pay $100 of those fees for you... so $525 to you & BMAR offers payment plans. Want to foster? She will pay all the fees to get the dog to foster....but you have to commit to fostering until we can find the perfect home.

Meet Forrest: A Loving Companion in Need of a Forever Home
Forrest is a beautiful, 12-year-old pit bull mix with a heart as big as his stature. Like many of us, Forrest could benefit from a little help with his weight, but that only adds to his charm. This affectionate boy has been waiting for someone to open their heart and home to him, and he deserves a place where he can feel safe and loved.
Forrest's Journey
Forrest’s story began in August 2018 when he was rescued from the Harris County Killing Shelter. He found temporary refuge with another rescue organization and a foster family. Unfortunately, when the foster family could no longer accommodate him, Forrest found himself needing a new place to stay. With no space available, we built a special run for him, hoping it would only be a temporary solution. The rescue organization promised to find him a new home quickly, max he was to be her was 3 weeks, but as time passed, Forrest remained with us. Like many unscrupulous rescues....they abandoned Forrest here and never looked back.
The Ideal Home for Forrest
Forrest is incredibly affectionate and enjoys the simple pleasures of life, like snuggling up with his pastel blue blanket. However, he is also dog selective, which means he would thrive best in a home without other dogs. He needs someone who can provide a stable, loving environment where he can enjoy his golden years.
Health and Care
Forrest is in excellent health and has been fully vetted. He’s ready to transition into a loving home where he can be the center of attention and receive plenty of treats and affection.
Adoption Details
We have reduced our adoption fees from $625 to $250 to help find Forrest his perfect match. For the right person, we might be able to work out something even more special. Our primary goal is to find Forrest a loving home, ideally outside of Texas, where he can spend the rest of his days surrounded by love and care.

BMAR has multiple buildings here that house everything from puppies to cancer hospice dogs. Our electric bill for the entire farm (not my living quarters – I have a separate meter) runs $3,000 per month in the summer. Just in the vet buildings we have 6 window units….and 2 of the large units went out today…all at once. We hurriedly rigged up more fans to blow the hot air around and buckets of ice….but we can’t wait…these dogs are ill, old, or tiny little refugees from the hoarding case. Our choices are to euthanize them -hard to do at a no kill sanctuary – or let them die of heatstroke. The 3rd option is to beg and see what we can do. A local business here steps up whenever they can….they offered us 2 a/c units 1 big and 1 small (yeah, I know we needed 2 large) but it is what they could come up with worth $1600 for $1100 cash out the door…we don’t pay sales tax. So that’s $4100 just this month to keep these dogs cared for properly. We are begging for donations to just help defray this cost. People often ask me what it takes to run a rescue this large….they have no idea. It’s not just food & vetting….it’s also prevents, equipment, general maintenance…. Mindboggling. Texas summers are brutal. We string shade cloth everywhere….we do what we can and we ALWAYS need help.

BMAR uses LOTS of 5 gallon buckets. We need some new, clean ones...$5 at Tractor Supply for food stuff and water. But also we can use a lot of used/dirty ones for clean up areas. If anyone local has some old buckets not being used....we sure know what to do with them!

Most we can get from Tractor Supply…we get a discount and we don’t pay sales tax so we can buy it cheaper than you can…and the egift cards can only be used there. The hose pipe for the busted vet sink and the pipe caps need to come from Ritters, so just a bit of cash donation for those cause they don’t have gift cards. We don’t ask for anything we don’t seriously need. And we fix most broken equipment ourselves to save money…so we just need the parts. We do our best…thanks for helping us to do our jobs!

We checked the list and no one has sent anything off of it....some of this stuff is really, really important. We have hospice cancer patients and this is only food they want. We really want to cater to sick dogs wants here, what else do they have?
The buckets...1 qt...we really, really need them. We took in so many little bitty dogs from awful hoarding cases and we are struggling keeping them cleaned up and fed/watered. Yeah, we have regular bowls but these dogs are scared to death and run over their bowls in flight sending food and water everywhere. We have to stop what we are doing and clean the mess. Not only is it a waste of food and potty pads...but it takes hours out of an already grueling day that is now exteneded because they are here. We STILL have all of our regular dogs to care for. yet we took these on because it was the right thing to do.
Wag soft jerky...we have some oldtimers with mouth/teeth problems...they can't eat milk bones are regulart treats and jerky. Yet they know they are supposed to have a treat waiting in their cleanned crate/gazebo cause they were really good with going potty outside and play time.
The chicken feet & pig ear slices? Well, maybe that's on us for being softies. After every kennel run and playtime...we give them treats for being so good and going to their kennels. Is it bribery? Probably...but some of these dogs have been here for years. All they have is us and kindness.
So anyone that feels like they can help us out...please visit the Amazon Wish list. And we cannot buy a single thing off this list here locally....

UPDATE: Thanks to generous donors we were able to get everything for Spike Lee today. We are happy to report that our med program worked and he is on the mend! Thanks be to all that helps these little old timers....now we can find him a home. And that is what it's about!

This little dude -Spike Lee – transferred in and he is medical with elevated liver enzymes. We need to do a blood panel first thing Monday morning. Unfortunately, we have an outstanding balance at our regular vet. We had to have some prescriptions filled for our really ill dogs and a few more will be filled next week. But for this little dude….we need about $150 for the exam and blood panel. I would really like to get an xray too…just to cover all the bases and make sure he is A-OK to place for adoption. He’s a quirky little guy but he does have some age on him….so would be nice to get this vetting done asap and lets’ find him a home!

This little tiny guy has the biggest personality! He’s been here since March, I often wonder why people pass by certain little ones. He is very cute and fits right in everywhere I take him in sanctuary house. He’s the boy that I always wish I could win the lotto and never have to find him a home with anyone but me. He has brightened my days when I am so overworked I feel like crying…he gently pats me with a paw to see if he can sit on my desk and help. When everything gets boring…he seeks to entertain by chasing his foot in violent circles and growling…it’s a game. And it is very effective….we all smile as he quickly ends the game and jumps in a lap to be hugged. All I can say, is someone is really missing the boat for a lifetime companion to bring so much joy to an empty life. He was a stray…what an abomination to let this precious little boy wind up at a kill shelter…abandoned, unmissed, unclaimed. The world sucks.

We have a FULL bus at the mobile vet clinic in Center TX right now! Could really use some donations....any help would be nice!
We took in over 50 dogs from hoarding situations and other reasons due to Texas Floods -these dogs had no where to go with rescues full to capacity trying to help. Any thing is appreciated. We always do our part....But we seriously need help with the vetting!

💉💉🧑‍⚕️🧑‍⚕️💊💊🩺🩺Vet clinic tomorrow! VENMO is for VETTING! The mobile clinic will be in Center TX tomorrow and we have 40 dogs going. Spays, neuters, heartworm tests, rabies, proheart vaccines…fecals for the hard cases. Will be an exhausting day but great rewards. All of these rescued dogs will get what they need and THEN….be ready for adoptions!

🆘🆘🆘We hate to beg….but seriously need our VENMO card loaded up for this clinic! We have some bucks but not enough to get all that we need for all the dogs. So if you have spare change laying around or in your VENMO account…can you shift it our way? We will send some live videos of the goings on at the clinic…just remember it is seriously hot in Texas so a lot of it will be on the bus so we don’t burn their feet on the concrete!

Those of you that don’t have VENMO…we have all these other ways of donating too!

It’s important…and saving dogs doesn’t stop with us scooping them up. All this vet work is done to make them safe and get them in homes. We appreciate every single dollar!

UPDATE: THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO SHARED. KODA HAS BEEN ADOPTED TO THE BEST HOME EVER! A REAL HUSKY HOME!
Koda is a beautiful husky being fostered by Tammy in Cape Breton NS. He hasn’t fared well and he needs some help to keep from having to come back to Texas! After being in the Texas rescue for 3 years (came in as a pup), he was sent to an adopter back in March that had hurt her foot and couldn’t take him right then. So Tammy fostered him until her foot healed. Her application stated that she was fully experienced in Huskies, be that as it may….the home was not what a husky needed and he had to come back to Tammy’s right away.

This is the first home that Koda has ever had…and he’s protective of those he deems “his” people in “his” home. Friendly & loving to them….he’s not so friendly to new folk and as big as huskies are…it can be intimidating for new acquaintances.

So we need a husky person to step up. He has one of two options….either a big dog husky savvy person that has the time to socialize him with a lot of other people and new adventures under strict supervision OR a quiet hermit home with few to little visitors so he can “guard” his “own” people and protect them for the rest of his life.

Which type are you? And are you willing to help him?

Here at the rescue in Texas…Koda was dog friendly, often in play groups. Minded very well. Had several different handlers and was well liked by them…and the liked all of them. But it is a rescue facility. In Canada….he had the first real home he ever had. And he just doesn’t know what to think. He knows he doesn’t want to give up a home. Until he settles, we have made the decision to place him in a home without children. If you are interested…let’s talk. What we don’t want is a husky as fine as Koda is to have to come back to Texas and the sweltering heat. So looking for a foster, or foster to adopt. Complete adoption is available once it is clear it will be a good match for all involved…and we can help on the fees. Our main interest is the welfare of Koda.
