It’s about 10:30pm and I just went outside to make sure that the rabbits had water for the night.
As I went out, I rounded the corner to see my beautiful new black otter pedigree doe was GONE!!
Her cage was WIDE OPEN! I have no idea how it happened or when. So I start to look around for her.. thinking ‘she is GONE! There is no way I’d be able to find her or catch her!’. We live on the edge of the forest. It’s dark, there are predators, large spaces for her to run and explore ... there is no way she is around.
When all of a sudden she runs up to me. She sits still and then as I got to pick her up... she DASHES off! Clearly really nervous. Then she runs up again.. and does it again....Bolts at the last second. It’s like she wants me, but is also scared cause it’s dark and isn’t sure about the situation. Finally she runs up to me and lays down right in front of me so I can pick her up.
As soon as I grab her I can tell she has a sigh of relief. I put her back in her cage and she stretches out and lays down like ‘I’m safe in MY space’.
She is so sweet. I’m trying not to have favorites... but, I honestly have never EVER met a rabbit with as much Character as this little rabbit does. (And I got my first rabbits as kid).
When I go out to feed the rabbits, she runs back and forth in her cage till I hold her and cuddle her. ALL the others want food, maybe a few pats, but then are shy if you try to hold them. Which is pretty normal. But not dusky tux... she ignores the food and tries to get your attention to be HELD.
I’m soooo so so glad that she is okay and that she trusts me enough to face her fears and run up to me in the dark. Dusky-Tux, What a good girl. 🥰
