Raising livestock and farming is not for the faint of heart. You have a lot of reward growing and raising your own animals to feed your family , there is very little profit but can br some if you play your cards right but its something in your blood that keeps you going and its a passion that you have Today was a day of almost total loss and a day that can make you question why you do this in the first place

We were working cows today getting our older calves sorted off and ready to be sold and everything was going great cows were moving along and we were getting them sorted and we were down to the last few when the red cow (pictured) got spooked and took off and tried to jump the cattle guard and obviously didn't make it landing and breaking her front leg completely. $3000 down the drain in about 5 minutes. We had already planned on selling her calf it's one of the older ones and is a beautiful heifer but obviously didn't plan on this.

So needless to say while there is a lot of reward in raising livestock there can also be great loss

Moving along some does. These girls have been great producers for us both excellent mothers 1 has had 3 litters and 1 has had 4 litters good genetics behind both and have produced rabbits we have put on the table to show. Got a chance to go look at our cows today. It's been almost 2 months since I have seen them I wasn't able to ride in the Kubota since I had surgery but it was a nice day to take a ride to find them on the back side of the pasture lol Our calves are really growing good

Oooof it's hot today 🥵. 101 heat index like 114. We have watered everything birds and rabbits multiple times today and put frozen bottles out to the rabbits as hot as it is they seem to be handling it well it did get to 100 in the barn but we turned the misters on that are only working partly and that dropped the temp 4 degrees still pretty hot but they are doing well. Looks like we have some cooler weather on the horizon though so looking forward to that!!

One reason we like to use bowls they will get in them when it's hot and cool off. It often time makes more work when doing chores but we have a pretty good system that works so it's not too bad. I noticed today a lot of them were using their bowls to cool off so had to water 3-4 times today.

It's Tuesday and it's hot. But we are surviving I guess. Stella's boy is doing good. Rabbits are all doing good so far looks like we have hotter temps to come not looking forward to that but not a lot else to report here

Stella finally kidded today on a hot day of course 🤦‍♀️ but baby boy is doing good looks like she is just going to have 1 this time he is pretty good size though so that's fine. She is a half bag doe she is an older girl but she produces so much milk with only having 1 kid looks like I will be milking her daily now last time she kept up with 2 kids and still gave me milk this time I am sure she will be milking pretty heavy. So... look for lots of things I will be making with goat milk lol.
