If your dog completely forgets you exist on your walks, try this super simple engagement game-

🍗 drop something high value on the ground and let your dog get it

🍗 wait for your dog to look back up at you

🍗 mark it and drop another one

This reinforces your dog for orienting back to you, which can carry into more check-ins during your walk!

Do this for a few reps until your dog is eagerly focusing on you, then start walking.

This exercise is called the Up-Down Pattern Game from Leslie McDevitt’s Control Unleashed program.

📍Save this and try it on your next walk!

Where are all my apartment dogs at?! The “wait” cue is a game-changing life skill, and super useful for apartment complexes. You never know what’s around the corner:

- another dog
- a neighbor balancing 12 grocery bags
- someone who’s not a dog person (they exist, unfortunately 😅)

Teaching “wait” at doorways, stairwells, corners, and elevators helps your dog stay calm and prevents a whole list of dangerous moments.

Here, we practiced “wait” when we didn’t need it so that it worked when we did.

Send this to someone whose dog has no brakes! 💨

💣 Most behavior change starts with understanding what’s actually driving it (no pun intended 😅). That’s the part people tend to skip.

So instead of obsessing over the jump, we slowed it way down. We looked at what the car actually meant to her:

Was she overwhelmed?
Was she confused?
Anticipating something she didn’t like?
A mix of all 3?

If your dog is unsure, overwhelmed, or has a negative association, trying to just “get them in” usually makes it worse. So we focused on making the car predictable, broke it into smaller pieces, and let her build her confidence without pressure!

Once she felt better about it, the behavior followed. That’s usually how it works 👊🏽

If your puppy’s crate training feels like a battle, it might be time to shift your approach, not your crate!

It’s not always about the crate itself. It’s about the *experience* your puppy has in it.

✨Instead of long stretches right off the bat, start with short, positive intervals

🦴Add in soothing enrichment to promote relaxation

🧸Make the crate a place your puppy associates calm, comfort, and GOOD stuff- not just being left alone

Need help? 🆘 My $47 step-by-step crate training course gives you everything you need- with video instruction of training games to make the crate a space your pup will love!

Check out the link in my bio or comment ‘help’ below and I’ll DM you!

If your pup is between 6 and 18 months, welcome to the teenage phase 👋 aka the dramatic reboot of everything you thought your dog had mastered…

Here is what’s really happening: they’re going through real hormonal changes (just like human teenagers). Their brain is rewiring. Their impulse control is not fully developed.

It’s not just frustrating— it’s science!

Inconsistency is what keeps the chaos going. So this is your reminder that structure, routines, and calm leadership are what get results.

TIP- pick one cue this week and commit to practicing it daily, even for just 2 minutes! Keep it simple.

Drop a 😅 if your dog is in their teenager era. You’re not alone!
