Happy Birthday Ashley! 🎉

Today we are celebrating the heart behind so much of what keeps TREVS running smoothly.
She's the one making sure that details don’t slip through the cracks, clients are taken care of, and the wheels keep turning every single day, all while being an incredible wife and mom to three girls. We aren't sure how she juggles it all and makes it look effortless, but we are convinced there’s a cape hidden somewhere.

Ashley, we are so grateful for the humor and heart that you bring to TREVS. Here’s to another year of keeping us all in line; we appreciate you more than words can say!

🇺🇸 𝟒𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝐇𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐓𝐢𝐩𝐬 🇺🇸

The 4th of July might be a celebration for us, but for horses, it can feel like chaos. Fireworks, unfamiliar noises, and even travel to rodeos or events can trigger stress, spooking, and dangerous situations if we’re not prepared.

💥 𝘊𝘩𝘦𝘤𝘬 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘚𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴
Know what’s happening near your barn or overnight stay. If you’re staying home, talk to neighbors or check local fireworks schedules. If you’re traveling to a show or rodeo, find out if fireworks are planned near the grounds so you can best prepare.

🔒 𝘚𝘦𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘍𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨 & 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘴
Before dusk, walk your fences and check gates, stall latches, and shelter areas. Startled horses can panic and escape through weak spots. A quick check now can prevent emergency calls later.

🚚 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘭 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘢 𝘗𝘭𝘢𝘯
Holiday weekends often mean traffic, delays, and louder environments. Make sure your horse has forage, access to water, and time to decompress when you arrive. Stress stacks fast, don’t add noise to it.

📆 𝘚𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘬 𝘵𝘰 𝘙𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘦
Horses crave consistency. Keep feeding times and handling schedules as normal as possible, even when away from home. The familiar rhythm can help keep them grounded.

🎵 𝘔𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘮𝘪𝘻𝘦 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘴 & 𝘍𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘴
Use fans or soft music in the barn to help dull the sound of fireworks. Leave a light on to reduce the visual impact of flashes. Keep hay or slow-feed options available to give them something steady to focus on.

💬 𝘉𝘦 𝘒𝘪𝘯𝘥, 𝘉𝘦 𝘈𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘦
If you’re lighting fireworks, please consider those around you, all animals, veterans, pets, kids, and livestock. Courtesy goes a long way toward keeping the whole community safer.

🩺 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘐𝘧 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘕𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘜𝘴…
If your horse has a history of anxiety or stress-related behaviors during fireworks, don’t hesitate to contact us ahead of time. We’re here to help you prepare, not just react. Because our horses can’t tell us when they’re scared, it’s on us to listen before they have to.

Wishing you a calm, safe, and memorable 4th of July weekend.

Always remember! ✍🏻‼️

Puncture wounds in the foot qualify as medical emergencies, due to the amount of vital structures just beneath the sole that can be physically damaged and/or contaminated with bacteria when they are penetrated by a sharp object.

If your horse steps on a nail or other sharp object and it remains embedded in the hoof, resist the temptation to pull the nail out and consult with your veterinarian first. Leaving the nail in place will allow the vet to take x-rays of the foot before removal, which helps to identify exactly what structures have been penetrated, and to plan the most appropriate strategy for dealing with the situation.

If your veterinarian advises, carefully remove the nail to prevent the horse from stepping on it and driving it deeper into the hoof cavity. As you remove it, be sure to mark the exact point and depth of entry with tape and/or a marker so the veterinarian can assess the extent of damage. Apply antiseptic to the wound, and wrap to prevent additional contamination while you wait for your appointment.

Penetrating hoof wounds can be extremely serious and shouldn’t be underestimated. The prognosis for successful recovery depends on quick action to identify the path of the nail, treatment of potential infection and mechanical damage to the foot, and proper aftercare. As always, consult your horse doctor for more information and advice!

Father’s day is for the men who lead with steady hands and soft hearts and the kind of strength that shows up at home and in the arena.

The best fathers don’t just teach lessons, they live them through patience, responsibility and hard work.
becuase the same qualities that build good horses build even better kids. Patience when things get hard, consistency even when no one is watching, and softness in the moments that matter most. It's not about control, it's about connection; and the best dads know that raising kids is the same thing.

Today we celebrate all fathers, the dads, the stepdads, the father figures, the ones who stand in the gap, and especially the ones we hold in our hearts. And of course... A special shoutout to the stallions out there doing their part too. 😉

Happy Father’s Day to all the incredible dads raising the next generation with love, leadership and heart.

From sunrise barn calls to late night emergencies, from the first breath of a newborn foal to the quiet goodbye of an old friend. Dr. Newton doesn't ask for recognition. Today we pause to remember and honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Their sacrifice is the reason we are able to enjoy the quiet freedoms of daily life, like early mornings at the barn, peaceful time with our horses, and the comfort of wide open spaces.

We’re also reminded of the role horses have played in our nation’s history, serving alongside soldiers with unwavering strength, loyalty, and heart. Their legacy is a meaningful part of the story we remember today.

Wishing you a peaceful Memorial Day as we reflect with gratitude on the freedom and lives we’re fortunate to have, because of those who gave theirs.

There’s a quiet strength in the way a mare watches over her foal. Present, protective, and patient. It’s a kind of care that doesn’t need to be loud to be powerful.

To all the moms; human and horse alike, who show up day after day, guiding with patience and leading with love, thank you. Whether you’re raising little ones on two legs or four, your devotion doesn’t go unnoticed.

Wishing you a day of appreciation for all the moments, big and small, that make such a lasting impact.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐰𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐦𝐲 𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐞?

Shockwave therapy utilizes high-energy sound waves directed at specific areas of the body to promote healing in bones, joints, tendons, and ligaments. Dr. Newton chooses to use the PulseVet Shockwave. This specific technology features a superior electrohydraulic method to generate powerful sound waves.

Shockwave may also improve blood circulation, stimulate cell regeneration, and can significantly alleviate pain, often resulting in reduced recovery times and improved outcomes.

At Tumalo Ridge Equine, we typically integrate shockwave therapy into comprehensive rehabilitation plans alongside other therapeutic modalities. The treatment generally involves a series of sessions, with the quantity determined by Dr. Newton for the specific condition and the individual horse’s response to therapy.

Beyond just the therapeutic and healing advantages, shockwave therapy also has the potential to enhance athletic performance by promoting quicker recovery and minimizing the risk of a set back. As shockwave research advances in veterinary medicine, new applications and techniques may further broaden the understanding in rehabilitation and pain management in horses.

If you would like to schedule a shockwave therapy session or have any questions, please do not hesitate to call or text us at anytime.
