We need to share a difficult update about A Shedding Chance Reptile Rescue😔💔

In June, our rescue account was impacted by fraud, resulting in a loss of $2,985.89. These were not personal funds — this was money set aside to care for the animals who depend on us.

Since then, we have spent weeks working with our bank, providing documentation, following every step requested, and trying to recover these funds. Unfortunately, the situation remains unresolved.

The impact has been heartbreaking.

Because of this loss, we have had to make difficult decisions to protect the animals already in our care, including temporarily pausing intakes while we work to stabilize our resources.

When people think of rescue, they often see the happy endings — the adoptions, the transformations, the animals getting their second chance. What they don’t always see is how fragile the systems are behind the scenes. A single unexpected crisis can affect everything.

We are continuing to advocate for our rescue and pursue every avenue available to resolve this. But right now, we need our community more than ever.

Sometimes the only prescription is tiny lizard energy. Mr. Tofu understood the assignment and brought all the good vibes. 🎶✨

Before anyone asks: No, Mr. Tofu wasn’t harmed or stressed in the making of this video. 💚 The colorful effects are entirely from our camera and lighting setup—we did not shine flashing lights on him or alter his environment in any way. His health and welfare always come first.

Now excuse us while we continue prescribing gecko raves to anyone who needs a smile. 🦎💚✨

💅🦎 Quality control has officially been approved by Peaches.

Peaches, our Merauke Blue Tongue Skink, took her job of helping pick out nail polish very seriously today... and we think she has excellent taste. 💚✨

We’re so excited to be collaborating with our dear friend to create fun, wholesome content for all of you! Between reptile “supervision,” creative ideas, and plenty of adorable moments, we can’t wait to share what we’ve been working on.

And before anyone asks—yes, Peaches got a little piece of banana at the end as a special reward for all of her hard work. 🍌💚 Fruit is only an occasional treat for our skinks due to its sugar content, so she definitely enjoyed her rare snack!

Stay tuned... Peaches has high standards, and she insists everything be absolutely fabulous. 😉🦎💅

Mandie here— One thing I’ll never claim to be is the smartest person in the room.

The truth is, I’m surrounded by some of the most beautiful souls I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing.

A Shedding Chance Reptile Rescue is NOT one person. It’s a team of compassionate, intelligent, hardworking people who bring their own knowledge, experiences, talents, and hearts to this mission every single day.

Every foster, every volunteer, every veterinary professional, every donor, every supporter, and every person who has given their time has helped shape this rescue into what it is today.

I learn something new from this team all the time. They challenge me, teach me, support me, and make me a better rescuer—and, honestly, a better person.

This rescue could never be just me.

It is built on the kindness, dedication, and beautiful minds of so many incredible people who all share one goal: giving reptiles a second chance.

To every person who has been part of our journey—thank you. You are the reason A Shedding Chance exists today, and I am endlessly grateful to stand beside you. 💚🦎

Mandie here with a Rescue Reality (with a little satire)

People think reptile rescue is mostly about picking up animals.

The truth?

Sometimes it’s a 5-minute conversation about a leopard gecko... followed by a 2 hour conversation about life.

Over the years, we’ve listened to people share stories of depression, illness, financial hardship, divorce, grief, housing insecurity, and so many other challenges. While our mission is to rescue reptiles, we often find ourselves simply being a safe person to talk to during one of the hardest days of someone’s life.

It’s heartbreaking to realize how many people are struggling behind closed doors.

This reel is satire because, yes... we’ve all had those moments where we glance at the clock and think, “Wait... what was the reptile’s name again?” 😅

But in all seriousness, we wouldn’t change it for the world. Because behind almost every surrendered reptile is a human being carrying something heavy. If listening for a little while helps someone feel seen, then we’re honored to do that, too.

Thank you for supporting not only the reptiles we care for, but also the compassion and kindness that rescue is built on. 💚🦎
