Indiana Deer Recovery Network is here to assist hunters needing help by providing both dog and drone trackers from all across the state with some tracking the entire state. We provide dog and drone trackers to help with whatever you situation is. The bad news today is definitely one of say a majority seen coming years ago. A hunter decided to use a thermal drone to scout, locate, and hunt a deer in southern Indiana. I can say without a doubt this is why we pushed so hard for a license so DNR would know who is doing legit tracking work and who doesn’t. Thankfully since this network has been started we have tried very hard to verify every person on our list is legit. The drone operator/hunter is one and the same and was not apart of our network. After talking with some who know way more about the situation I have come to learn this individual bought the drone for his construction company and never did deer recovery. His actions were on him and him alone. These values do not represent what our network stands for and what we try so very hard to not let happen. Maybe we can have some good come from this and finally make some progress in getting a license created for deer recovery. I’ve any representatives from the state of Indian or senators happen to be on this page please reach out I’d love to work with you to make this happen!

Now might be a good time to say we can only fly during deer season to do recovery work. This year we can’t even fly to do herd analysis flights until season is completely out. 14 days prior to the season opening this starts and runs through the end of deer season. Using a drone for recovery is completely legal. We can not fly on DNR properties but we can fly over them as long as we aren’t launching or landing on DNR properties. We can come back and keep checking on the deer without it being an issue. If we can’t find the deer you can go right back to hunting during legal hours like normal but please don’t ask for pins or locations of any other deer we find while looking for the wounded deer. I know me personally I’m not giving it to you. We can not help you if the deer is found alive in trying to get him down. All we can do legally is wait and keep checking on them. There is no dispatching allowed in Indiana dog or drone. If you have any other questions feel free to reach out and we will discuss whatever you’d like to have some clarity on.

Guys and gals I apologize I’m way behind on getting things done for this year. Just can’t seem to find the time to get to the list and the map… thought I would today but after yesterdays Verizon mess my phone never came back from sos mode so can’t get anything done today either. I promise I’ll get all the messages replied within the week and txt everyone back who’s been txting. Truly sorry I haven’t gotten it done like normal!

Friendly reminder we have drone pilots who conduct herd analysis surveys. If you are interested in seeing what made it through the season or what the buck to doe ratio is or whatever else along those lines reach out to the drone pilots close to you!
