When nearly 100-pound OSHA from Bug A Bull arrived for his board and train program, he was in rough shape in terms of training. At four years old, he had spent his entire life tethered 24/7 only to find himself out of time at the shelter. He wasn’t crate or potty trained, didn’t know any commands, would drag anyone holding the leash, and jumped all over anyone who interacted with him.
In just a short time, he’s made incredible progress. He’s now crate trained, doing great with his potty training, and has started learning his basic commands. OSHA now understands “here,” “sit,” and “down,” and we’ve begun introducing heel work. His excessive jumping has significantly decreased through simple, consistent training. Most importantly, he genuinely enjoys working and looks forward to his daily training sessions.
We’ve started him on a slip lead paired with positive reinforcement, as he initially showed signs of cowering when corrected verbally after jumping. Our goal is to ensure he associates training with positive, enjoyable experiences before we introduce any corrections for unwanted behavior.
On a funny note, the rescue named him OSHA because an adoption shelter sited him as being aggressive for having “safety legs”. We’re not sure what “safety legs” are, it’s certainly not a legitimate term and this dog displays 0 aggression.
