UPDATE: SAFE WITH A GREAT RESCUE!
Courtesy Post - STILL NEEDS PLACEMENT
UPDATE: We asked a trainer to go meet Duke and he did that. He says he is a great dog who is in need of learning basic manners. He does not know how to walk on a leash, for instance. He absolutely craves attention - but as a new person meeting him, the trainer was able to keep his excitement within reasonable bounds by ignoring it - and then reinforcing a calmer state with pets and attention. He said that Duke absolutely has no mean in him whatever - his enthusiasm is just sometimes over the top and he needs to learn to listen, even when he's excited. He knows the "sit" command, which is good. He's a large, strong dog, and needs a person who can handle a dog his size with his energy level.
RESCUES: If you have an appropriate foster for Duke, please private message our page. FFFR is not taking new dogs currently, but we told Duke's dad we'd try to find a new home or rescue for him.
Duke is one handsome dude!
Duke is an Olde English Bulldogge, 4-1/2 years old, and he's lived with his family since he was a puppy.
According to Duke's dad, he doesn't have a mean bone in him. He loves people and other dogs - so much so that he can be a bit "over the top" with excitement when first meeting them.
Duke lives with children - he seems to instinctively know that he needs to be gentler with them than necessarily with larger humans. He is just FINE with children.
Duke needs a family who will work with him on training, give him plenty of exercise and firm, kind guidance as well as lots of love, and preferably has experience with the breed or at least bully breeds in general.
He's a great dog. True to his breed, he needs leadership and continuity in order to shine and be the very best dogge he can be 🙂
We will be screening applications for Duke. If you can foster or would like to adopt him, and live in Connecticut, please fill out an application at our website - https://www.furryfriendsct.org/foster-application
