Meet Mr. Wally — our newest (and currently stinkiest) rescue.

What do we know about him so far?

🛁 He’s very smelly. Think corn chips mixed with yeast — likely from matted fur and layers of dirt. He’s had two baths and still isn’t quite fresh, but we’re getting there!

He’s mostly blind. His left eye is completely blind from an old, untreated injury, and his right eye has a painful ulcer we’re treating. He’s a little wobbly navigating the world, but he’s managing like a champ.

🐾 He’s got a strange little hitch in his step that we’ll be checking out at his next vet visit when he goes in for his neuter.

🐶 He gets along great with other dogs, is crate trained, and honestly just wants to snooze near his people.

Wally has a long road ahead before he’s adoption-ready — but stay tuned. His transformation is going to be something special. 💛

Sometimes rescue is hard. Today is one of those days.

We noticed Wilma taking a turn over the last couple weeks, she would have some good days and some bad days. And she started showing symptoms that her kidney failure was progressing. After speaking with our vet today and really considering Wilma’s quality of life, we made the decision to help her across the rainbow bridge.

It’s never a decision we take lightly or want to make. But our priority is keeping the dogs that come into our care comfortable. Wilma was only with us for a short amount of time, but she made her mark with her bulldog ways. She was loved.

Alright, friends. Wilma Update! After some time with her in our home, we now know more about her and her little quirks.

1. She has chronic renal failure. She got updated bloodwork today and her disease has progressed. Our vet wants to see her every six months to monitor her blood work. What does this mean? She will continue to be on a prescribed kidney support diet and we will follow her lead.

2. She, in fact, does not do well with pigs or chickens. She has also gotten in a couple scuffles with another female dog in our home, but only when a resource (a pig or a chicken) is involved.

With this new information we believe she will spend the rest of her time with Henry’s House. Either in a forever foster home or as a sanctuary dog.

Our beloved old man, Grandpa, passed away in his sleep earlier this week. We never know how much time we’ll have with these kids, but they always take a piece of our hearts when they go. Grandpa was so loved by all and spent his last week getting spoiled. You will be missed, ol’ man.

Wilma is now accepting applications for potential adopters. She has one vet visit and then she’ll officially be ready.

Here’s what you need to know about Wilma Jean:
1. She is the epitome of a stubborn, hard headed bulldog.
2. She ADORES all people.
3. Her previous records say she is in kidney failure, but we will confirm with our vet. She is on kidney food for this and doesn’t have any symptoms, currently.
4. She likes licking knees.
5. She ignores other dogs in the home, unless they snap at her, and then she tries to lay on them. (This has happened with only one grumpy old man dog in her foster home.)
6. She ignores the 20 year old cat, chickens, and pigs in her foster home.
7. She is crate and potty trained.

Guess who is ready to find a new forever foster home. We are looking for a hospice for our old man, Grandpa. We aren’t sure how much time we have left with this boy, but we want him to be living his best life.

As a hospice foster you will take care of Grandpa and we will provide everything you need for his care - food, supplements, veterinary care, etc. if you’re interested, please reach out!

🎤 Uhm, hello, what’s that about only wanting purebred dogs?

Welcome our newest addition to the Henry’s House crew, Wilma. She was bailed from Lyon County Animal Services this morning and is already settling in with the crew. Here’s what we know so far:

1. She was well loved.
2. She has no concept of personal space and loves everyone.
3. She smells and sounds like a bulldog.
4. She ignores other dogs, pigs, and chickens.

We’ll know more over the next few weeks as we get her ready to find her forever home.
