🎉 Big news from our little kingdom! 🐹✨ In less than a year, we’ve doubled our storage space to keep up with the incredible donations and program supplies you’ve blessed us with.

This bigger unit means more room for cages, food, enrichment, adoption gear—and the ability to respond faster when hamsters need us most. 💗

We’re still dreaming (and searching!) for our forever home, but today, we’re celebrating this huge step forward. Thank you for making it possible. Every gift, every share, every bit of support is what keeps us growing. 🌱

We’re heading back out on the road — and this month, it’s ALL 🐹 Syrian hamsters 🐹 including tons of babies!

⏰ 8–11 AM both days!

🌪️ 71 Hamsters in July… and Counting!
We’ve had an absolutely wild month—taking in 71 hamsters so far, with at least 3 more arriving next week (maybe more 👀).
📆 7/1 – 25 hamsters returned to us through our pet retention program
📆 7/6 – 12 sweet boys from Palm Springs Animal Shelter (the best shelter, btw!)
📆 7/8 – 17 adult dwarves (plus litters 😭) saved from a couple heartbreaking Facebook Marketplace situations
📆 7/16 – A mama Syrian and her 4 baby boys—all suffering from mites and anemia. They’re improving with treatment, but it’s a slow road to recovery.
📆 7/17 – We drove 6 hours round trip to pick up the Coffee Girls and their brother, Ghost (who has been adopted!) The girls are stunning and adoptable soon! ☕️

💫 What’s next? On 8/2 we’re heading back to Palm Springs to pick up 3 Syrian hamsters arriving from Arizona—possibly more! We’ll share a dedicated post soon, but we’re ready to coordinate adoptions in Palm Springs too. DM us if you’re interested 💗

And yes—we’re very aware of the guinea pig hoarding case in our region. Thanks to your past support, we’re holding steady and prepared to shift resources quickly if needed. We’ll always do what we can to protect the most vulnerable.

We’re honestly speechless.

In less than 24 hours, you didn’t just meet our fundraising goal—you doubled it. We’re overwhelmed in the best way possible.

Rescue work can feel like shouting into the void sometimes. And beyond that, we know times are tough for everyone right now; it can feel scary to ask you to prioritize hamsters with us. But moments like this remind us that you’re out there, that you see the work, and that you care as deeply as we do. Every share, comment, and donation—big or small—was a bright light in a week that felt pretty dim.

Thank you for lifting us up. Thank you for showing up for these tiny lives. Thank you for being the kind of people who give hope.

Not the most glamorous photo… but definitely one of the most honest. 😔

This is what hamster rescue looks like right now: exhausted, overwhelmed, and still pushing forward; just like these mamas.

You might remember we took in 13 hamsters this week. That’s on top of the 32 (yes, THIRTY-TWO) who arrived earlier this month that I’ve been too busy to post about—and now we’ve got 9 brand new babies. That’s over 50 souls in July alone. And there are hundreds more who still need our help.

I’m tired. I’m full. And I’m doing everything I can to make space where there isn’t any. We’re working hard toward expanding into a bigger space to serve more animals—but in moments like this, it can feel so far away.

Once upon a time, there was a teeny, fluffy gentleman named Mr. Cottonball who was simply too adorable for his own good. He lived in a palace so charming and well-decorated that we simply cannot be trusted not to keep him forever.

This dashing robo comes with his entire gorgeous cage and accessories—fit for royalty! He’s polite, speedy (as all robos are), and surprisingly handleable for such a tiny whirlwind. Roborovskis aren’t for everyone… but for those who adore them, Mr. Cottonball might just be The One.

🌟 Meet Mokie 🌟

This special girl came to us from our friends at , who reached out knowing she needed extra TLC. Mokie has severe dental issues due to malnutrition that require regular trims and a soft, nutritious diet—care that we’re more than happy to provide here at SWRC. 🦷💕

We learned that Mokie was the beloved companion of a houseless individual and lived in a car for some time. She was lovingly fed human food scraps and cookies—whatever her caregiver could offer. In a truly selfless act of love, her person recently made the heartbreaking decision to turn her in, wanting better for her. 💔❤️

Now she’s settling into a cozy, quiet corner of our rescue, where she’ll have all the toys, space, and specialized care she needs. Mokie is sweet, calm, and so clearly grateful. While she’ll likely live out her life with us due to her ongoing needs, we’re open to an experienced, gentle adopter—we’ll happily teach you how to care for her, and she’s a total champ for her tooth trims.

And if the stars have aligned and you happen to be her former caregiver reading this: thank you. You did your best, and your love shines through. We’re honored to carry the torch. 🐹
