A year ago today my best boy was brought to us after being found wandering on the side of the road. ❤️

At the time I wasn’t sure if he was a he or a she, or how he’d do with the ducks but he’s a happy boy who enjoys grass, Romain lettuce and a dip in his personal goose sized bowl. 😆

He does not enjoy frisky boy ducks and he makes sure they know it.

It still amazes me how much personality can be packed into these big birds. I just love this guy so much.

I have some sad news to share tonight, sorry it’s not a festive St. Paddy’s post. On Friday we lost our goat, Ellie Mae. 💔

I remember finding Mae Mae on Craigslist. We drove pretty far to get her from a “farm to table” type of place. When we got her home she yelled for days. Thank God we didn’t have the neighbors we have now; we’d probably have had to take her back.

Even now I think about how she was likely yelling for family members she missed, but if it weren’t for us, she would have just went somewhere else and odds are it wouldn’t have been a pet home.

When Mae Mae got pregnant, it was definitely not on purpose. That’s another story entirely but if it never happened, we wouldn’t have Cotton… and Molly of course. I think being a mom was the best thing that ever happened to Mae Mae because she finally had her own family again.

Cotton and Molly seem to be doing okay. I was worried about them at first. I think that’s what makes this the hardest. They were basically inseparable. I’m glad the siblings have each other.

I’m not sure what she passed from, it was overnight, very sudden and unexpected. It’s hard not question everything, if we missed signs in the days before. She appeared to be acting normal. I am trying to tell myself at least she lived a good long life here with us and her two kids that were never taken from her.

We know she was at least ten years old, and of course was so loved. We will miss her and her teef. ❤️

Spring is going to mean lots of mud, things to fix, and separating boy ducks from girl ducks… sorry to the pea-pods who are already stalking their favorite girl. But it’s amazing what a difference a few degrees and sunshine makes!

Happy birthday to the one and only Cotton! The face of the farm. It’s hard to believe he is seven years old today.

Of course happy birthday to his sister too, she’s pretty, but Cotton got all the personality. Her baby pics still circulate here on IG helping repost accounts sell their silly t-shirts.

Facebook reminded me that my birthday is coming up and asked me to pick a nonprofit to support. It got me thinking- one, because we need to become a nonprofit so people can actually choose us, and two, because I’d love to choose us myself.

I know I don’t post here as much these days, so I don’t feel like I have business asking, but if you’d like to make a birthday donation to Cotton’s Freedom Farm, there are ways to do so in our bio, and I’ll also share them in our stories. My birthday is tomorrow, and Cotton himself will be SEVEN on Thursday! Where does the time go?!

(It doesn’t have to be monetary, we also have a wishlist.)

This winter has been rough. My duck coops are falling apart, and while I am looking forward to warmer weather, I’m also dreading the mess it will leave behind.

For now, here’s a little bright spot from today, Gooseman actually got to get out for a bit, and we definitely enjoyed the sunshine. ☀️
