When the owner is empowered with the knowledge and skills needed to guide their dog into a balanced head space, this is where true bonds are

made! If your dog is pulling on the leash, barking and lunging at people and/or dogs, disrespectful, fearful, anxious or just plain unruly, Kim's K9 Academy is here to help. Currently able to do one on one sessions with you and your dog and get you both living the life you were meant to live together!

Look.at that sweet face! Say hello to Daisy! I met with her and her owner to help establish structure in the home. Daisy is new to her home and may have been an outdoor dog in the past. Helping with potty issues, over excitement, impulse control, and some basic obedience was our first mission and Daisy did great! She is such a sweetie!

If you need help with your new pup or are looking to get a dog/puppy, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE reach out to me for help BEFORE you choose your dog! I can help you make the best choice for you and your new pup!!

Look at this good boy and his amazing owner, working hard today!

Bodie has a hard time not being a part of every aspect of his owner's life. Sound familiar? It's a very common issue owner's face. When we don't lead our dogs through structure, rules and accountability, they find ways to do that themselves. Usually, this will show in forms of anxiety. Teaching your dog a simple command such as place, can build discipline within your dog. It helps them to become more confident because they can relax on place and not have to be a part of your every move. It also helps with impulse control. Teaching them to have control over the impulses of what they want to do versus what they need to do. It also just simply teaches them how to have an off switch, and just relax!

When you give your dog a job to do, it creates clarity for them. They understand what is expected of them and therefore don't have to make up their own decisions, which typically are not the ones we would prefer.....
Be the pack leader for your dog and give them a job to do! Wandering around your house aimlessly, howling and barking while you're gone, is not desirable. Give them a job to do such as place! If you need help with this, let me know!

Keep up the good work guys!

Edit: I forgot to mention these videos below are not the greatest of quality, LOL! It's very difficult to walk a reactive dog and take adequate video at the same time. If only I had a crew!

Day 7 with Charlie! This was a HUUUUGE Win today! We've been working extremely hard to help Charlie work through dog reactivity. His owners couldn't walk him in their neighborhood because he would see other dogs and completely melt down. He would be barking and screaming(typical pitty scream) and just plain out of control. He would also do this in the vehicle when he saw other dogs.

I have been setting a foundation of obedience to help work through some of his big feelings about other dogs. Once this was established, we began introducing environmental pressures, such as other dogs and car rides. The psychological aspect of reactivity is difficult and timely corrections are key.

You can see he's riding quite well in the vehicle, without any major issues. Then we had some BIG WINS on the reactivity side of things. We saw several dogs out and he was able to control his emotions with my help! We will continue to peel back the layers and start fresh, with a new outlook on seeing other dogs. He's building confidence and this is what his owners need to do too! But today, was such a good day for Mr. Charlie ❤️

Many of you have responded to my previous post about not being qualified for the shelter position. I'm so grateful for the love you all have shown me! If you know me and have worked with me, you know my heart is for humans and their dogs! I love you all and I deeply care about my work with you and your dogs. I give 110% to everyone I work with and am deeply committed ❤️

It has been recommended I volunteer some of my time at the shelter, as it would benefit from the commitment I have to people and their dogs. I couldn't agree more!

Hopefully in the coming weeks, I can be approved as a volunteer and begin helping dogs and people find the perfect match!

Thank you again for all your love and support 😘

Guys.......who are they hiring at your local animal shelters if I'm not qualified 🤔

A great outcome today! Charlie came today for some observation! I needed to see how intense his reactivity was, towards other dogs. I'm happy to say he is not "aggressive" in the sense he wants to kill another dog. I believe he's a bully in a china closet and just needs to learn some boundaries and proper social etiquette. I know some humans like that too😂!
Charlie will be coming for 10 days of day training, to straighten him out! He needs to be able to walk a neighborhood full of rude, small dogs........cheer Charlie on as he learns to walk the gauntlet of dogs!

A huge shout out to my girls! They're exhausted! They were an absolute HUGE help today with my training session with Charlie! We were unsure of what his intentions were with other dogs. He's a pitbull in a china closet 😂 I have seen this with terrier breeds, often. They are intense about their feelings and if not shown how to deal with those feelings, baaaaad things happen.

We'll be seeing Mr. Charlie for a 10 day training program and I can't wait to get him in a better headspace!

I have been working on a couple things with my own dogs. I'm teaching Tina "right here," which means I want her to come to my left side and sit. It's just a little fun and fancy command I like to do with dogs. Klover does it SO WELL, in fact you'll see in this video how she whips her butt around to get into position 😂 This is my third session with Tina and honestly she had the gist of it after our first session.
The second thing I'm working on is name recognition during training, with multiple dogs. I want each dog to recognize which one of them I want to work with. If I call Tina, I don't want Klover to come because she hears "come" and vice versa. This is why you hear me say each dog's name with each command because I want them to pay attention and listen!
This is a fun way to teach your dog something new but you're also teaching impulse control, name recognition, food luring,( my dogs are literally NUTS about ANY food!)and your practicing leadership skills with your dog! I guarantee your dog needs way more leadership than affection!

If you need help with your dog, message me and we'll come up with a plan to get you and your dogs in a better place!

Charlie is a sweet boy! We're working together to help him understand he doesn't need to react to other dogs. He doesn't need to voice his opinions about how he feels about them, at least in an uncontrollable way😁
We'll be working together for awhile, but this is the beginning! Setting up rules, structure and accountability is the foundation!

Stay tuned!
