Not every holiday story is a happy one. We don't love to share these stories, but we know it's important to show every side of rescue; the good, the bad, and the ugly.
5 weeks ago North Paw brought Figgy into our care, a newborn microbully with a cleft palate. We know the odds are never in their favor, but we fight for and with these special needs neonates as much as we can.
Figgy was lovingly tube fed round the clock for three weeks. She was then taught to safely eat kibble. She was getting a personality. She was a goofy little puppy who had so much love to give, and so did we. She had been thriving as much as her little body could, until she wasn't. This morning, on Christmas Eve, her body gave out.
Our little Figgy, sweet as can be, was set up for failure from the beginning. Microbullies are a made up, designer breed. They are bred for their looks and based solely on greed, by uneducated breeders trying to make a quick buck. That quick buck comes at a price. It quite literally cost this little potato her life.
We never want to get the call for unhealthy dogs in need, but we will answer the call whenever we can. Figgy needed us, and in many ways we also needed her. She reminds us that big gifts can come in small packages. She reminds us how fragile life is. She reminds us that every living being deserves to know love, even for a short time. And she reminds us once again, to say . We are so sorry that love couldn't save her, but her memory will forever be a blessing. Hold your loved ones, two legged and four, close tonight.
