Mango and Melon have been taking great care of their little ones! We now have 3 little hatchlings in the nest. We are expecting 2 more to hatch, as the other two eggs are definitely fertile. Ivy and Jasper, one of our cockatiel pairs, are starting to prepare their nest box for their spring clutch as well! We cant wait to see all the beautiful babies they produce!

For any interest in our birds, please keep in mind that we operate on a waitlist! We likely will not have babies available from either clutch unless a spot on the waitlist opens up.

We have some pretty exciting news...

Upon closer inspection of our clutch from our good friend Sheena Johnson, we are seeing axanthics! Now why would this be exciting you may ask?

Well, the dad of the clutch was from our Nyx & Ghibli clutch. We were not expecting any axanthics, because neither of his parents had axanthic listed as a potential het. We know Nyx was not het axanthic, because when bred to Hershey, a melanoid axanthic copper, she had only melanoids and wilds. This means that the axanthic gene had to have come from Ghibli, making him het axanthic, leucistic, and melanoid!

Below are some pictures from our stereoscope! The first is an axanthic, the second is a wild, and the third is of them compared side by side.

After a long 6 month break of breeding axolotls, we have decided its time to set another pairing up! "Hollyleaf" a melanoid het copper, albino, hypomelanistic, 50% het axanthic and leucistic to "Ghibli", a golden albino het melanoid and leucistic! Both of them have given us beautiful babies in the past. Can't wait to see what they produce!

Did you know its generally a good practice to not only test your tank parameters, but also your tap parameters? We like to periodically check our tap water to make sure we dont have any unwanted ammonia or nitrites lurking! As usual, everything looks great.

Weve found lots of rain or snow can sometimes cause ammonia to show up in our tap water, so we are extra vigilant around these times. If you notice ammonia in your tap water, it is crucial to use spring water on any tubbed axolotls, and ideally your tanks as well! Prime claims to also detoxify ammonia, but since we are not chemists, we cannot confirm or deny these claims.
