🚨 BEDREST. EMPTY SHELVES. BIG BILLS. 🚨

…And a rescue full of cats who still need us.
I’ve been sidelined again after wrenching my back and am on strict bedrest while I recover. That means I can’t run around picking up supplies like I usually do — so our storage being stocked is everything right now.

Because of YOU — our incredible Kitty Village — we’ve made huge financial wins:
✅ Vet office balance: PAID OFF TODAY 🎉
✅ Capital One credit card: PAID OFF thanks to H.E.L.P. Animals 🙌
📉 CareCredit: down to $6,000 (still chipping away)
But after restocking all foster homes and keeping just enough for our own cats, the shelves are almost bare. And monthly bills don’t stop just because I’m stuck in bed.

💰 Monthly Costs to Keep Going ($3,800–$4,200)
(Vet bills, medications & preventatives, microchips, storage unit, rescue phone, background checks, email, ink, and more behind-the-scenes essentials)

💵 Even $5 makes a difference. 🛒 Send supplies straight to us thru wishlists. 📣 Share so the next animal lover sees it.

We’ve dug ourselves out of debt before — now we just need to fill these shelves back up.

🐾 Rescue Roundup – August Updates! 🐾

We’ve had so much happening in the rescue lately — adoptions, medical updates, and so many happy endings in the making. Here’s the latest from our kitty village! 💖

✨ Blink & Wink – Our Blind Mice 🐭 are still on their eye meds and improving daily. Every day they look brighter and stronger, and we’re so proud of their progress.

🏝 The Beach Balls – Making waves in the best way!
🥝 Kiwi & Kai are back with their original foster family… who decided they couldn’t say goodbye. These two are staying furever where they’re loved most.
🪸 Coral is recovering beautifully from surgery, going from spice to sugar in her brand-new foster home — with a brand-new foster parent joining our team!

🦴 Fable – This brave girl with the broken leg had her wrap changed again and is healing so well. Somehow, she still has endless zoomie energy!

🐈 Shayla & Shyloh – These sweethearts came from a TNR project and another rescue transfer. They’re thriving in foster care and have already been pre-adopted into their purrfect homes.

🎶 The K-Pop Demon Hunters – Mama Celine 🌟 and her four babies (Jinu, Rumi, Zoey, and Mira) are doing fantastic in foster care. Mama is proving to be a doting young mom, and the babies are growing like little rockstars.

☕ At Pure Joy Cat Café – Stop in to meet: Luna Freya 💕, Noctis 💜, Mama Vanille 🌸, Quinn 🌼, Misty 🌫, and Mama Shimmer ✨. They’re all waiting for their purrfect match!

🏡 Still Searching for Their Furever Homes – Bramble 🌿, Thistle 🌾, Belle 🌹, Bamboo 🎍, Celeste 🌙, Discoball 💿, Eclipse 🌑, Galaxy 🌌, Houdini 🎩, Forrest 🌲, Mary 💐, Thackery Binx 🐾, and Starburst 🌟 are ready and waiting for their Livy Ever After.

🧡 Milo – Formerly known as Randall from our Monsters Inc. litter, Milo was returned years later due to HOA restrictions. It was heartbreaking for his family, but thanks to our return policy, he’s back with us so we can find him his next livy ever after.

💊 Stormy – Doing much better since we adjusted her thyroid meds. Next, we’ll be starting her on a supplement to help with her chronic meowing and weight gain (she’s very picky!).

🚗 Chip & Dale – Headed to their furever home in another state with the family of their foster mom. We love these happy full-circle moments!

🎉 Squirrely – Her broken leg has fully healed and she’ll be adopted next week — truly a miracle girl!

🐾 Callisto & Prince – Adopted together into their purrfect home.

🧀 Cheddar & Gouda – This cheesy pair was adopted together into their purrfect home.

🚀 Jupiter – Heading to a furever home this week!

My favorite humans find the longest-waiting cat at a shelter and adopt them. 🧡

Consider giving a cat with special needs a second chance this month—it’s Clear the Shelters month!

If you're thinking of getting into animal rescue, here's something you need to know: you need to build armor, not just for the hard work, but for the people.

You’ll need more than compassion. You’ll need resilience. You’ll need to remind yourself daily why you started, because the world will test you.

People will cheer you on when you post a happy rescue story. But when you say no, because your rescue is full, your funds are low, or your team is exhausted, those same voices will criticize you.

They’ll forget the 600 animals you saved and focus on the one you couldn’t take. Don’t let it change your heart.

Some people will praise your care, your process, your kindness, until they want to surrender a pet, and you ask questions or try to help them work through it. Suddenly, you’re the worst person for them.

That’s part of the job.

You’ll lose relationships. Some friends won’t understand why you fight for animal rights. Others will be cold to you when you’re being too dramatic for them after spending the night with a dying rescue. Let them go.

People will call you every hour, message you at 2am, expect you to be available around the clock. And when you finally pause to breathe, they’ll say you’re fake, you don’t care. It’ll sting, but keep breathing anyway.

Other rescuers will criticize how you operate, even if they’ve never set foot in your rescue. Some will help. Others will just talk. Focus on the work, not the noise.

You’ll see things you can’t unsee. You’ll witness cruelty. And sometimes, no matter how fast you get there or how much you spend, you’ll still lose the animal. Those are the nights you’ll sit and cry alone, and no one knows that.

But even in that pain, you’ll keep going.
Because despite all of it, the judgment, the burnout, the loss, the work matters.
Every life saved is a reason to continue.

Rescue is beautiful, heartbreaking, and unforgiving. But if you’re in it for the right reasons, you’ll find strength in the heartbreak and purpose in the pain. Just don’t lose yourself in the process.

Felt like this was much needed right now. For my friends, my partner and all my rescue friends struggling and for everyone who wonders why I don’t respond, why I dont answer your calls, why I forget things, why I miss or cancel appointments… it’s because of this.

🐾 Rescue Update 🐾

It’s been a few days since you’ve heard from us — not because nothing’s happening, but because everything is happening at once. 💨

Between caring for mama cats with their babies, coordinating trapping for TNR, and making some of the incredibly tough decisions that only a rescue director knows the emotional weight of… we’ve been stretched thin. But thanks to our dream team and the amazing kitty village that lifts me up, we’re still standing and still showing up for the ones who need us most. 🖤🥹

Right now, we’re:
• Caring for multiple medically fragile cats 🩺
• Managing follow-ups for recent surgeries ✂️
• Coordinating fosters, adoptions, and much-needed supply runs 🚗
• Keeping our rescue running behind the scenes — paperwork, phone calls, and planning never stop 📋

We may have been quiet online, but the work hasn’t slowed down for a second. We also have a return coming back to us and some adoptions lined up. Stay tuned for that update! Thank you to those who’ve continued to send supplies, donate, and check in — you are literally keeping us going. 💕

We’ll be sharing updates on specific cases (and some adorable faces) very soon, so stay tuned. In the meantime, here’s your reminder that every share, every dollar, every bit of help matters.

This kitten is being spayed. She is only 4.5 months old and she was pregnant. She is a baby herself, now thankfully spared the misery of raising a litter on the streets. This is the battle we are up against: babies who can have babies, cats who can get pregnant while already pregnant or as soon as two weeks after giving birth. This is why we implore you, if you see a cat, please fix a cat, pregnant or not. We fix kittens at two months, two lbs, following shelter medicine protocols in our clinic. We are begging you to help us help them. Feeding cats without fixing= breeding. Photo credit: Dr. Erica Unz, DVM.
